So some of you might be wondering why those nifty little roll over drop down menus have disappeared from the main menu of PaperDemon.com. Well, I took them down for a few reasons.

One, a friend suggested I take them off because they were annoying.

Two, I have no idea what they look like in older browsers. It could be a big mess. At least with this menu it pretty much looks the same in any browser.

Three, the drop downs were a PAIN in the butt to control. It was a pain to control the spacing and centering of them and I was having a hard time organizing them in such a way that it made sense.

So I scrapped them and instead created two lines of navigation. The major ones on the top, and some minor ones just below the major ones in a smaller text. This works out pretty nicely I think. It's much simpler.

Don't worry, you can still access all of those links such as Newest artwork and the Crit Wall, etc. by just clicking on Art Gallery or Writing, and then clicking the appropriate link in the green column on the left.

By the way, a friend also suggested that I get rid of the scroll bars on the front page. Scrolls within scrolls are kind of lame and annoying so I'm wondering what I should do with the front page. I could come up with a new design that doesn't involve scrolls but that would mean less artwork, writing, and forum topics on the page. I'm also thinking of just taking off all of the newest art, writing, and forum topics on the front page and just leaving the news posts there and then maybe put ads for the new premium accounts or whatever new thing needs to be advertised. What do you guys think?

OH. That's where you hid all the stuff I use ^^; Well, if this is the case, then you better take it down from Red Curtain to, cause the drop menus are still there. Damn, I thought I was going nuts or something...

Personally, I like how you have the art part of the front page setup. I mean, it all fits nice, you can show more art, and you don't have to scroll down 5 ft. of page to find it. I like the scroll inside the scroll personally. ^_^

How hard is it to make them ornate? I've seen it on other sites- making the scroll bars look like it was ment to be on the page. Could you compramise that way?

Well there are two ways to customize scroll bars. One is by puting the content in Flash, which I don't want to do. And the other would be to use IE specific CSS code, which I don't want to do either unless I can find a Firefox code as well. I like Firefox better than IE so I don't want to make the site look better in IE than in Firefox. I'll see if i can find a code.

*worships Firefox's goodness*

I seriously don't know why people still use IE or Netscape (Who uses netscape anymore?)

I did some searching on Google and as far as I can tell there are no codes for changing the scroll bar colors in Firefox. So what you probably saw Arkillian was Flash. I don't want to put Flash content on the front page unless it's really necessary. So for now I'll have to come up with some other solution. Maybe I'll have to learn some Javascript. I think you can make content scroll automatically in a box with Javascript.

Ohhh- only if you want it [emoticon] My brother took a course on it so I'm assuming its *a little* harder than HTML ^^; Although I'm sure you know HTML, CSS DHTML and a few other languages I can't think of just yet ^^;

I know HTML and CSS but I don't know JavaScript. DHTML is using JavaScript and CSS together. In my defense I do know PHP which is what powers this website and PHP is harder than Javascript lol.

Yeah this site is powered by PHP and MySQL. sites like this are either powered by PHP or a similar programming language like .NET or ASP.
