Ōban Star-Racers is a co-production between France and Japan. The creative team behind the project (Paris based indie company Sav! The World Productions) moved to Tokyo and worked hand in hand with the teams of anime studio Hal Film Maker for almost three years.[1]
Originally planned as an all-French, all-CGI production, the animation is mixed-media, with 2D Japanese-animated characters and sets produced in Japan by the aforementioned Hal Film Maker, and with 3D French-animated ships and races produced by Pumpkin-3D.
