The book is actually based on a little joke of mine. I remember one day, a few years ago, I was at my aunt’s house and was hanging out with my cousins for a few days. Then, I got this idea, and I told them that one day, when I was ‘rich and famous’, I was going to make a movie called "Closed for Repairs" and see how long it lasts in the box office. My cousins thought this was very funny, and I told them that I was going to write a script as soon as I thought of what the movie was going to be about. My cousin Sarah suggested a Lumberjack drama…I don’t know, either. But finally, I thought of this, and until I can make it a movie, I’ll have to settle for a short story.

Prologue

"Say, you guys wanna hear an Urban Legend?"
Reiko and the rest of the gang looked up from the campfire and their alcoholic drinks and stared up at Clarence. Dave was the first to pipe up with, "What Urban Legend?"
Clarence smirked, "The one about the haunted movie theater back in the city that was torn down a few years ago. I know the legend, and I’m more than willing to pass on my great knowledge to my best buddies."
"Like we’re gonna remember it!" Giggled Gabrielle, almost falling out of Dave‘s lap. Everyone laughed and finally Clarence said, "So, you wanna hear it or not?"
"Yeah, sure." Said Dave. "Enlighten us. Tell us the legend of the ‘Haunted Multiplex’."
"Alright, I will!" Clarence stood up proudly and flicked his short brown hair out of his face before showing off one of his smirks and winking at Gabrielle, who giggled again. "The legend of the haunted Movie Theater takes place back about twenty or thirty years ago. Five teenagers were working at the theater, just making some blow money, ya know. But one of the theater rooms was always closed with a huge lock on it and everything! The boss warned them when they started working there never to go near that door. It was totally forbidden.
"Well, one of them couldn’t stand it anymore and just had to know what was on the other side of that door, right? So, they all agreed to go in after the boss left. They were basically gonna open the door, step in, look around, and that was that, right?
"So, as soon as the boss left for the night, one of the employees, who was hiding in the bathroom, came out and unlocked the doors to let in the other four. They searched the boss’s room and found the key to the theater, and went to open the door. They unlocked it, stepped in, and never came out.
"The next day when the boss came back in, he found the door still locked, but the key missing. Those teens were never found either. It’s said they all…" Clarence looked around and shouted, "DIED!"
Gabrielle jumped back and Reiko let out a small scream. Everyone laughed again, except for Reiko, who only stared at the ground, her cheeks pink.
"Oh, come on!" Laughed Dave. "You made that all up, didn’t you? Nobody could’ve possibly died! Unless that boss man was keeping a homicidal freak in there!"
Just as Clarence was about to respond, they heard a rustling noise in the forest surrounding them.
"Wait. What was that?" Reiko looked up and saw something emerge from the trees behind Gabrielle and Dave. The two turned around and Clarence looked as well.
"There’s many flaws with that story of yours, little boy." Said the figure.
"Wha--who you callin’ little?! And whaddya mean, "There are many flaws?" How would you know?! It’s just a legend!" Clarence placed his hand on his cocked hip and pouted, his pride smashed.
"First of all, not everyone died. Four out the five did and one wound up in an insane asylum for most of her life. She was just…let out recently, as a matter of fact.
"Another thing, there was way more than one lock on that door, there was at least 10. Padlocks, deadbolts, combination locks, one on the doorknob that had another lock on that and a couple chains as well. He kept all the keys with him even though he wanted so much to destroy them. He didn’t even write down the combinations for the locks so not even he could go in. He made sure nobody ever had the opportunity to go into that room. And I can see why. It was no picnic in the park for those teenagers. I know the real ‘legend’, and that was not it."
"Then why don’t you tell us? Anybody’s better at telling stories than happy boy, here." Gabrielle pointed at Clarence, who frowned in response to the remark. Dave and Gabrielle laughed and Reiko kept silent.
"Very well then, I’ll tell you. But you must swear never to pass on this knowledge to anyone. Ever. Understood?"
"Please, we probably won’t even remember it tomorrow! You’re secret’s safe with us, lady." said Dave.
"You’d be surprised. But, I place my trust in your hands. I will tell you the story of the theater that was closed for repairs."
