“I choose you, Maril!” Tracey called, releasing a beam of light from one of his pokeballs.
“Maril!” Maril bounced happily, twitching it’s round blue ears excitedly. Hue beamed in excitement as Gryla scuttled in front of Maril. Shelly’s face turned into a rosy pink colour at the pair.
“Ahhh! Major cuteness!” she giggled, hugging her Neko in excitement. “I’m rooting for both of you!”
“Ne ko!” Neko agreed positively. Brook turned on his gym leader face, and strode up to the two pokemon importantly.
“Trainer battle between Hue Picasso’s Gryla, and Tracey Sketchit’s Maril. Let the trainer battle… Begin!”
“Maril! Tackle attack!”
“Gryla! Try a Prism!” Ash’s eyes widened. He didn’t even recognize Gryla’s first move. Maril began bouncing toward the glowing chipmunk for a tackle attack, halting in mid bounce as Gryla suddenly disappeared into nowhere. Tracey’s jaw dropped.
“What was that?” He gapped, speechlessly trying to figure a way around the strange move. Narrowing his eyes for a brief moment as Maril’s ear twitched, Tracey spotted a strange movement of colour. “Gryla can bend the light around it! Maril, follow Gryla movements by sound!”
“Maril!” It replied as it twitched its keen round ears. Suddenly, picking up some movement, Maril stormed into nowhere, giving what appeared to be nothing, a head on tackle. Gryla appeared back in view to its surprise.
“Gryla!” Hue panicked, “Shift the scenery, and hit Maril with your most powerful refract beam!” Gryla’s rainbow eyes lit up excitedly, twitching its tail once more. Immediately, the scenery around them shifted from a forest, to a beach, then to a house, the top of a hill… Maril gaped at the changing surroundings in shock. Hue grinned accomplishedly, “We may not be strong Gryla, but we know how to paint!”
Misty and Shelly grabbed a hold of Ash and Brook miserably at the changing scenery.
“Make it stop…” Shelly moaned, “I’m gonna be sick.”
“Tracey!” Ash yelled, “Do something to stop Gryla! Try a supersonic!”
“What the…” Gryla’s eyes glowed a strange colour, paralyzing Tracey in surprise. Maril was no different. “Maril! Light screen!”
“Too late,” Brook breathed, as Gryla released a powerful refract attack at Maril, shooting the aqua mouse into a nearby tree with its force.
“Maril!” Tracey cried, leaping over to the tree to see how his pokemon was. Hue stood in silence for a moment, not even noticing his Gryla tittering away happily, letting the scenery go back to normal.
“Is it all right?” Ash asked Tracey, as the four friends raced toward Tracey to investigate the situation. Tracey nodded sadly picking up his weakened Maril tenderly.
“Yeah, Maril will be fine, after some rest.” Beaming toward Gryla however, Tracey’s face lit up like a Christmas tree. “It looks like Gryla had fun winning that battle!”
“See Ash,” Misty teased, pocking Ash in his side, “Tracey takes a loss better than you do.” Ash shrugged, giving Pikachu a grin as it bounced onto his shoulder.
“He has a right to be proud,” He started, giving Pikachu a scratch on the chin, “None of us had a clue what was coming with those light moves of his. Besides, I don’t think Tracey was battling for the win.” Pausing to watch Gryla leap into Hue’s arms happily, Ash nodded toward the painter in accomplishment, ignoring Misty’s ‘did that really come out of his mouth?’ look.
“The question is,” Brock started thoughtfully, joining the three, “did the fight work?”
