A poem I wrote after we had Saule put down (you'll recognize him from the drawings)
Chapters
Tail wagging, all excited, with a playful bow.
Greetings at the door, a happy yodeling howl.
Everyday, home from school, my puppy meets me thus
A pat, a cuddle, and a bit of play and love
This is what I look forward to, every single day.
Six years of this, with my dear pup Saule,
There's nothing more I want than to do it all again.
Now tears fall from my eyes as I hold him through his pain.
Everything has been decided, and it will happen very soon.
Clinging to my goodbyes, I turn my back on him
Knowing that when I return, there will be no greeting.
I hold my memories close, as sadness washes over.
And through this all, I've yet to say my final fairwell.
So here it is, my friend. I say goodbye to you.
Your suffering has come to an end, no more pain for you. And we shall meet again.
