This was the final straw. Yanking handfuls of vines from his hair, Vexen stormed down the hall. He knew where that cursed Assassin was, and he intended to give him a piece of his mind and settle this once and for all.
“Marluxia!” He shouted, pounding a icy cold fist against the door. “I know you’re in there, open this door!” A moment later, the large door opened, the smirking face of number XI coming into view.
“Ah Vexen, so good to-” he began, his words quickly being cut off as the blond Nobody forced the door open, seizing hold of the rose haired Nobody’s coat. Only slightly bothered by this, Marluxia still smirked. “My but you seem flustered.”
“Shut up!” the scientist snapped, slamming the sneering Nobody into the nearest wall, effectively conveying that he meant business. “This foolishness ends NOW,” he growled through gritted teeth.
Realizing that the higher ranked Nobody was serious, the cobalt blue eyes narrowed slightly, staring into the deep green hues as his hands came up to seize the Academic’s wrists. Glaring at each other, a battle of wills took place above a battle of sheer strength as one tried to overpower the other. Finally, Marluxia threw Vexen’s hands off of him, shoving him back and quickly summoning up a coil of vines to seize the other’s wrists and ankles. Thinking himself safe, the Assassin slowly straightened, smoothing his hair back.
“Now, why don’t we-” he began again, and was once again cut off. Sheaths of ice raced along the vines, freezing them to the very root as the scientist ripped himself free again. Marluxia tried to move away from him, only to find that ice now encased his boots, holding him in place. Vexen summoned his shield, fixing his half insane look on the other.
“You will tell me…Why?” he snapped. “Why have you been doing all of this NON-SENSE for so long?!”
“Hah, as though you would understand,” the rose haired Nobody scoffed, using a portal to transport himself across the room, raising a hand and summoning his scythe into it. Spinning the massive blade, he charged the other, swinging it in a wide arc, missing the hem of the blond’s robe by bear inches. “Why do you care?!”
“Because of your disrespect,” the shield came up now to catch the scythe and shove the other back a ways, “and down right CRUELTY! I’ve had enough of it!”
His free hand swept the air in front of him, throwing a line of ice shards at the rose haired Nobody, who barely managed to dodge. The scythe ripped through the air, a wave of energy hurling from it. Vexen caught it on the back of his shield, though the force knocked him back a ways.
“You and your damn PRIDE!” the rose haired Nobody shouted, rushing the other, scythe raised high to strike him. Vexen raised his shield, and with it, a massive column of ice rose beneath the Assassin’s feet, knocking him backward. An instant later, a sharp almost spear-like piece of ice was hurling at him.
The world almost seemed to slow down at that instant. The point of the ‘spear’ pressed against his shoulder, ripping through his coat and piercing his flesh. When the world picked up pace again, he was slammed back against a wall, the ice imbedded in his shoulder and the wall behind him. A strangled cry of pain left him as searing pain coursed through him, warm blood pouring from the large wound.
Panting softly, Vexen straightened, dismissing his shield. He hadn’t wanted to use such measures, but at times, extremes were called for.
“Now,” he said sternly. “Answer my question.”
Tears stung the cobalt eyes as he struggled against the shard. He couldn’t feel his arm, the opposite one hardly enough to dislodge the massive hunk of ice. A shadow over him caught his attention. Vexen was there, his hand on the end of the ‘spear’, forcing it deeper. Marluxia cried out, thrashing and trying to free himself.
“Answer me!!” the blond demanded.
“Because I love you!” the rose haired Nobody blurted.
A moment of shocked silence followed. The blond took a shaky step backward, green eyes wide.
“What…What madness is this?” he said incredulously.
Slumping against the wall, supported only by the pillar of ice impaling him, Marluxia realized he’d said too much. From here, there was no going back. Raising a hand to clutch at the numbing skin, he grit his teeth a moment, then finally spoke.
“I can’t…get you out of my head. Every moment of everyday, you haunt me…I can’t stand it.”
“Obsession and love are two things, you fool!” the blond snapped, though he fell silent when a pair of tear filled cobalt eyes met his own.
“I am no fool!” he snapped. “…Day after day, you would pay me no mind. I’m so lowly ranked beneath you, I’m not even worth your time. I wanted your attention…So I came up with the only way I could to get it…”
“If that is so then why did you embarrass me so? Why did you continually HUMILIATE me?!”
“After a while…I wanted to make you hate me. I thought…it would make hating you easier.” His expression softened from one of defensive anger to something very akin to pain and sorrow. “…It didn’t.”
Vexen’s icy glare wavered at that. He faltered, unable to find the words to respond. Lips parted several times, but no sound left them. That look…that look of longing from the Assassin. It had to be fake, it HAD to be. But…something in him told him other wise. Slowly, the Academic stepped closer to the other, their eyes remaining locked on one another. Marluxia tried to straighten himself, to not appear so weak and pathetic.
The rose haired Nobody’s breath hitched as icy lips pressed to his own in a soft kiss. The contact lingered for several moments, finally ending with a faint gasp from both parties. Green eyes met blue again, a silent moment of tension passing between them.
Vexen raised a gloved hand and pulled the shard of ice from the other’s shoulder, the shard bursting into glittering snowflakes. The blond turned his back on the other as he crumpled to the floor. Gasping, Marluxia clutched at the wound, looking up at the other, hoping that maybe he would turn and help him, offer him a potion, and that he wouldn’t walk away…without a pause…
And then he heard the door close with a hollow echo.
