Your words are a silence
that echoes and rings in my ears
etched in the ripples at the bottom
of my cup
I can see through the liquid
the way I see through you
and
if I had any faith
I'd wait

standing by the bridge
and I sit and listen
sit and listen
to the tune she plays
fingers pressing keys
the way you pushed me

I sat and watched the love you promised
slip through my grasp like water
that just wasn't meant to stay in my palms
but for whatever reason, my thoughts remain clear and pristine
like the falling snow
if I could just reach up and join
the dance of the snowflakes
I'm sure I could forget

that I ever felt anything remotely close
to love for someone like you
it hurts to think that way but it really does beat
remembering that electricity that
passed between us
going off through our connected gaze
fluttering eyelashes that have the same
effect as a bomb

your letters are a portal to a world
I wished were real
there's so much there for me that
never could be
looking down the drain I can see
all the blood I tried to hide
cover up
like the love I had
for you

if I had anything out of this
at all
I'd wait
