Luciferous

Posted Jun 23, 2005, 7:48:30 AM UTC
This is the illustration to the poem below, which was written for my friend (and not by me. I don't know the poet's name, only the initials)... Sort of. I got a little caught up in the drawing itself, and it stopped being described by the poem, and became its very own thing. Of course, if I wanted to, I could add the midnight sky, and a shadow cast across it - but I like it the way it is right now. It speaks loads to me about who I made it for.

Angel

dark and physical as Hell
wrap me in your
leather-muscled wings.
Cast our shadow
sin full
against the mid night sky.
Throw your hair across
my face, smother me
inside your savage silk.
I'm captive by design
reflected in your eyes
luciferous.

~Love to you, Lewd dahling. This is, in essence - you and yours.

Smegarama! The wings on this are amazing and I love that border you've done. It makes the whole thing loads more interesting... not that it wasn't interesting in the first place... ah, you know what I mean. Great stuff!

I like borders. They help me control the darned pencil. Wink Thanks so much, though, Guestie. Your comment is, as always, much appreciated. I have a plunger in my cupboard for that sink, you know. The hamster can't stay there forever. Cheers!

Now the hamster has many uses, If you stick a coathanger up it's arse it can be used as a panscrub!

Only if first you use waterproof gel on its fur, you see. Otherwise it's just too soft...
  • Jul 14, 2005, 5:02:45 PM UTC
Wonderful job, the wings look very leathery, The faces are well proportioned too. I really like the Border design it's perfect for the picture.

Thanks, hun, I'm very glad you like this one... It was quite a job to motivate me to finish it.

Both the poem and the pic are wonderful! We really feel the bond of protection between the two characters . Technically, I love the intricacy of the frame and what you've done with the leathery wings. Great Job, Robin!

Embarrassed Thanks for the considered critique, Greg dear, and for taking the time to stop by and comment. I'll see you in the Garden!

Wow- I've been through one page in this gallery and already I've found three beautifully drawn pics by the same person!! ^^ You have a gorgeous intricate style in your pictures- its very romantic. I can't comment alot on poetry cause its too abstract for me to grasp the full feel for it- I'm a novel person ^^ I do love your art though.
    • Jun 24, 2005, 11:12:46 AM UTC
*smile* You don't need to comment on the poetry, anyhow. I didn't write it, so I haven't the power to chage any of it - not that I would want to, I like it just the way it is.

Thanks so much for going through my gallery and leaving so many wonderful comments. Makes me all happy!
      • Jun 24, 2005, 9:08:38 PM UTC
Ah- awesome. I don't feel so bad then ^^; Heheh... Comments is something I try to put a bit of effort into. I know its appreciated Wink

It's lovely and it has very good contrasts minimaid Smile First time I've called you by your alias, but not sure if you would prefer your name kept back here, or not? Smile

It really does capture the poems mood, and I can't see any really glaring faults at all, but then you can see the bigger picture *Hugs!*
    • Jun 23, 2005, 11:16:03 AM UTC
People here know my name, Stephi Dahling! After all, I sign all my pictures with it. Wink

Thanks very much for the kind comment..

Mostly, actually, the biggest problem I have with the drawing are the faces and the shading on the bodies... *hugs back*

The picture is so well done. It goes well with the poem. The poem is great.

The poem was written by De Moreland. Years ago. She's one of my oldest and dearest friends. More than friends; not a lover in the sexual sense, but in every other sense. She's like my mom, actually. Yeah, that's it. Sheesh, that was a round about way of trying to explain it. I'd add a smiley of confusion or something equally expressive if I knew how. LOL

I love this and she will too! I really don't know what to say. I'll have to think and when I can make sense of my brain droppings, I'll tell you privately.

I'm especially glad it's you in the picture. Haven't known you long, but you've wrapped me in your wings and held me together long enuf for me to feel safe and blessed. I appreciate that more than you can know. I love that the picture became it's own thing during creation; that's how it should be. That's how the poem came about. She said she came to the poem with an image and then the poem took over and wrote itself. Exactly as it is. Some folks have told her to change this or that and she won't. Maybe it would improve it, maybe not. She doesn't care. It's the poem it's supposed to be and she sticks by it.

And the message is so true. I'm glad you reminded me.

HUGS and more hugs. And a bucketload of flowers for you.
    • Jun 23, 2005, 11:21:38 AM UTC
Brain droppings can occasionally take a while to piece together, can't they? I know mine do.

Embarrassed it's amazing what a few messages back and forth between people worlds away can do. Often, it's words from people on these sites that really brighten my day. Perhaps that's why I'm always in front of the computer. Laughing

I told you I wouldn't wait to finish this one. Unfortunately, I really DO have to work on those other projects now. Smile Much love, and hugs to you. I'll put the flowers in some water, right here on my work desk. Bounce

  • Jun 23, 2005, 1:00:29 AM UTC
I love this, it is beautiful!! How long does it usually take you to draw your art, because it is always so wonderful and detailed, and just plain extravagent!!! The art I have seen from you is always so... I don't know how to describe it!! I commend your skill deeply and truly. -bows- I hope that maybe one day I can slightly, almost, kind of, mount to your skill and talent. ^-^
    • Jun 23, 2005, 1:12:54 AM UTC
I usually work in spurts over the course of a few days. In total, my drawings tend to take 3-4 hours... But I started out small. No borders, no backgrounds. I would take out books from the library and instead of reading the how-to sections, I'd just copy (not trace) the drawings until I figured I had a good handle on how it could be done. That's how I developed most of my techniques... Then later, I started doing more freehand work. You should post some of your artwork! If I had known about these sites at a younger age, I'm sure I would have improved far faster...
      • Jun 23, 2005, 11:08:00 AM UTC
^-^ I usually just start a drawing when I have this little artistic urge in me that won't be sated by writing. Sometimes writin down everything gets a tad bit tedious. #_# It never takes me too long to draw something, maybe an hour, or two, if I do shading and details and what not. The thing is, I am usually writing and drawing at the same time, so I go back and forth, and you would think the drawing would have something to do with what I was wrinting, but it never does. Sometimes I do my own take of art I find intriguing and stuff, but ehhh. And I would post some of my work, but all I have is a camera to take a pic of it and post it, my scanner is broken. -shakes fist at said scanner- DARN YOU!! I WANT PEOPLE TO SEE MY HORRIBLE ART WORK!!! LoL Sorry for making this whole thing about me, I guess I am selfish in that way. Sorry about that. And it doesn't matter now, because you are still a wonderful artist!! ^-^
        • Jun 23, 2005, 11:26:19 AM UTC
It really is too bad you can't post your work. Slant Most of the time I spend on my drawings is in the design, composition and border. That can take an hour to an hour and a half to sketch out just so. The rest of it is detailing and colour.

And it's not selfish to relate your own experience. It's how most people converse, luv. Thanks so much for your ego-boosters! Laughing
          • Jun 23, 2005, 11:39:56 AM UTC
I wish I could... but... oh well. Unless I become a really good photographer and can make it seem as if the picture is scanned, which I highly doubt, I won't be able to. I can live though. ^^ And welcome!! I really do love your work. =^.^=
  • Jun 23, 2005, 12:41:40 AM UTC
Beautiful, just beautiful Robin! You captured the essence of the poem so brilliantly. I love those wings, they look leathery and ancient like old parchment (it's hard to describe).
Also that gorgeous border creation once again, the faces are a nice touch.
You are the 'Queen of Design' in my book and I am proud to call you friend.
    • Jun 23, 2005, 12:47:15 AM UTC
"That gorgeous border" nearly made me scribble out the whole drawing. Laughing I am not the epitome of patience, unfortunately, or my dawings would be far smoother. As it is, I have to work with my personality in the best way I can.

I am honoured, and have been since the first day you found my gallery, that you've taken the -time- to consider me friend. You know that - and we can inspire each other. The basis for a good few years ahead of us. Smile

Cheesiness aside - Thanks, Lloyd! I'm glad you came over to my gallery again! I really do appreciate it.
      • Jun 23, 2005, 12:58:06 AM UTC
I also consider myself fortunate that I caught your gallery and commented. I almost didn't at the time as I was at work and was rushing to get to a meeting. I remember that day vividly as it's also the day I finaly went to check out Wayne's gallery and the day I had to fire a good friend at work.

As for cheesiness? I happen to like cheese, especialy on my pizza *smiles*.
        • Jun 23, 2005, 1:01:41 AM UTC
Ugh. Having to fire a friend would be very hard indeed...

You've only known Wayne's art as long as you've known mine? Woah. I thought you guys had been discussing your art far longer than that, for some reason.

Cheese - my antidepressant. (At least, until I look in the mirror. :roflSmile
          • Jun 23, 2005, 1:06:18 AM UTC
Oh yes! Wayne and I only began corresponding this year. I met him as he was the first person to ever comment on my gallery (it's true!). Later he and I became pretty good internet friends. Just like I hope we have become.
            • Jun 23, 2005, 1:08:53 AM UTC
We most definitely have, luv. Bounce Wouldn't have given up these past few months for the world of internet correspondences. Laughing

  • Jun 23, 2005, 12:18:46 AM UTC
This is a great piece. The wings and their poses are great. I really like the border too. The faces look really innocent though because they are so round. Maybe if the faces were harsher and unfriendly it would work better?
    • Jun 23, 2005, 12:21:22 AM UTC
Well, the woman's face is based after mine, which is quite round... It's also half-covered so any harsher lines have been skewered.

The man's face posed some difficulty for me. I did try making his face more angular, but it didn't fit at -all- with the mood, and it tended to make his head look way too small for his body, because he's looking down... At any rate, I agree. The faces aren't quite right, and are my least favourite part of this drawing. Thanks for the insight! Big Smile
      • Jun 23, 2005, 12:56:13 AM UTC
oh well. None of us will ever make a drawing where everything is just as we wanted it. Especially with faces. It is so hard to get them just right because facial features are so delicate and subtle.
        • Jun 23, 2005, 12:57:46 AM UTC
I think my main problem was the angle. I'm going to have to get people to pose for me in order to get it even close to correct... *pout* But I still like it, nevertheless. Usually faces are easiest for me... But not lately.
          • Jun 23, 2005, 1:00:25 AM UTC
yes that definately is a very tough angle. Recruit your friends to pose for you. You could also get some of those japanese pose books. They are quite useful.

I'll be recruiting my boyfriend. He doesn't object too much, since I let him teach me how to wrestle and fence (of course, that benefits me as well... Angel )

Right now I'm saving some money up for new pencilcrayons after buying a bike... I'll have to put pose books on my birthday wishlist for next week!
              • Jun 23, 2005, 1:16:44 AM UTC

  • Jun 22, 2005, 11:19:21 PM UTC
That's wonderful! Your friend wrote that poem? It is very deep and emotional and I think you have done a remarkable job of portraying your friends' words. You two should be commended. Bravo!
    • Jun 22, 2005, 11:28:47 PM UTC
No, no, my friend didn't write the poem. Sorry.. I should clear that up. My friend's friends wrote the poem for my friend, and about my friend... Oh dear, complicated, isn't it?

Thanks for the compliments, Lady! *runs off to fix description*
      • Jun 22, 2005, 11:32:52 PM UTC
Well, it's not complicated any more since you told me and all. Wink Let me rephrase my post then... you and your friend's friend should be commended. How's that?
        • Jun 22, 2005, 11:38:45 PM UTC
*blush* Works for me! Thanks so much, hun. This one was quite a lot of work - I hope it gets noticed.
          • Jun 22, 2005, 11:49:10 PM UTC
Of course it will get noticed. Name one piece of yours up here that hasn't got noticed... *stands with hands on hips and taps foot on the ground* That's what I thought. Wink
            • Jun 22, 2005, 11:53:47 PM UTC
Er... Vanadis, Rock Spirits, Gothica, and Requiescant in Pace are my least noticed pieces so far...

Embarrassed LOL! I'm not complaining. This is the best site for getting critiques of my work.
              • Jun 22, 2005, 11:59:45 PM UTC
Hmmm...you say "least noticed" instead of "not noticed at all." Are those all on the red curtain, hun? If so, that could be the problem. I have noticed that my pictures over there don't get looked at half as much as the G-rated ones. Except for by Brethesen. And that's only because he's looking at the boobs. Wink
                • Jun 23, 2005, 12:00:28 AM UTC
Nope, most of them are here. In fact.. I think all of them are here.
                  • Jun 23, 2005, 12:01:34 AM UTC

                    • Jun 23, 2005, 12:04:09 AM UTC
Laughing You don't have to check them out, luv! I think you've seen most or all of them.
                      • Jun 23, 2005, 12:08:04 AM UTC
I have seen quite a few of them and commented on them. French toast is pretty good. I am taking your advice so I can learn the language. LOL! I can, however sing the entire alouette song. By George, I think it's working!
                        • Jun 23, 2005, 12:11:23 AM UTC
It must be! But do you know what the entire allouette song means??
                          • Jun 23, 2005, 12:12:30 AM UTC
Of course. Well, don't ask me right now, I need the sing along book in front of me. It tells me what everything means.
                            • Jun 23, 2005, 12:14:04 AM UTC
Laughing *taps fingers together* Excellent, my grasshopper. You are learning, yes. (This is getting a little long. I think it's time for us to move on)
