Winged Wolf

Posted Sep 9, 2007, 11:59:43 PM UTC

Did this one back in freshman year. Started out wanting to play with wings and a circular frame, and I don't know what the heck happened, but the celtic knots fought their way in there, and so began one of the most tiresome ventures of my art career. This picture set me off celtic knots for at least a year. I would actually cringe at the sight of them. Now I'm okay, but I'm half-surprised I didn't need therapy afterwards. Or at least arthritis medcine.

This looks absolutely stunning. I can imagine you didn't want to draw celtic knots afterwards. That must have been a real pain. It paid off though and the wolf looks amazing. Well done.

Danke shun. I seriously spent a whole year hissing and making a cross of my fingers everytime someone showed me a celtic knot. It was actually kind of ridiculous. xD

I totally can imagine that. The knots are lovely though. You should feel proud you can do that.

    Cute Smile
The frame is awesome I wouldn't have the patience to do something like that ^^¿

This is wonderful! I would probably have a hard time if I'm to make something similar, but here's my two cents' worth of constructive criticism anyway: the forms are wonderful but the overall balance is still a bit shaky. The picture doesn't yet flow very confidently, but is rather shaky in gut-feeling. Perhaps some contrast to pull objects' distance apart and, definitely, to gain firmer shapes would help. Keep up the good works!

I had a judge at an art contest two years ago tell me the same thing. xD It is actually very good advice, though, and I thank you for reminding me. This was back in Art I days, when I didn't pay much attention to composition. Wow, that was a long time ago... xD It's good to hear this kind of thing from someone who's not an old fart of an art teacher. ^_____^ Thanks again.

Whew! glad that my opinion match up with a professional's. I think the composition is fine though, just the shades/contrasts and the moon's shape. Well, some art teachers do tend to be closer to being teachers than actual artists, but you know, they have their qualifications.

lol. According to Larkin, becoming a teacher is equal to firing your muse. Makes me wonder about a couple of my would-be-professions... hmm. xD

That's great! I like the animal. And the knot-work is very nice!

This is really pretty! Big Smile

I can see why it turned you off Celtic knots for a while. What? You're braver than I am, that's for sure.

Well, considering I'd put it away for months at a time, once I started the knots, I don't think I was very brave. Very stupid, perhaps, but quite the art pansy. xD

Well, GOSH. When you put it THAT way...! Laughing And you were almost like a hero to me for a minute there...Cry

Nah, I'm just kidding. Laughing You're still waaaaay braver than me. Laughing I've never even tried Celtic knots before.

They're actually not so hard as you'd think. If you can draw two lines the same distance apart, and find a good reference, you're most of the way there. After that, it's all patience. And if you can forget that your hand hates you, they're actually very good for meditation. Like friendship bracelets. xD
