The Tragedy of Sigurd

Posted Oct 20, 2007, 12:16:14 PM UTC

...for lack of a better title. This was inspired by a story from Norse mythology. The woman is Brynhild, leader of the Valkeries, and the man is Sigurd, a hero whom she loved. But he was enchanted to marry another woman. Out of jealousy, Brynhild arranged for his murder, but after, she was so overcome with remorse that she threw herself on his burning funeral pyre and died with him.

Sweet story. It reminded me sort of of Romeo and Juliet, only with VIKINGS, so I was inspired to draw it. I might try and finish this, but knowing me, I'll probably never get around to it, so I'm putting it in "sketchbook."

Firstly: thumbs up for going the realism approach with this (there's too much anime these days) Smile

I think it'd be greater if you could put more charcoal/graphite to the paper (i.e. shade darker), because it is rather light and hard to see here- unless that's the effect you're after.

    Great work!
