Paper Demon of Gotham City

Posted Aug 5, 2008, 7:36:57 PM UTC

My submission for August Theme Week - The Joker, The Paper Demon of Gotham City.  :D  Inspired by the tarot card "The Hanged Man" and the numerous times Bats has had him in this position, this Joker is an amalgam of my favorite renditions of the character (The Animated Series and The Dark Knight).

If you notice semblances to The Dark Knight, please don't say so for a while.  I have a couple friends who haven't seen the movie yet and are trying really hard to avoid spoilers.

Adobe Photoshop, over the course of the last few days.

Thanks! Heart My original vision for this one had the jacket only vaguely looking like bat wings, but I decided to overly-stylize the wings to punch up the effect. I'm still not sure if it would have turned out better the other way or not, but I think for the purposes of this Theme Week this version worked out. Smile

Very nice work with the color. Now I hope to find the Tarot them running on your next theme subs. A theme within a theme. By the way Nice work with the city scape.

Thanks! I'm glad you like the work with color - bold color and high contrasts are elements that are becoming a staple of my style. Tarot-themes also show up with a mild frequency. (I have a couple of pieces in my dA gallery with tarot themes, and a number of my pieces for class that weren't photographed also utilized it.) I'm a tarot reader, so it's not surprising. XD I also love theme-based challenges and contests, so I'm really looking forward to the next theme week already. Big Smile

Me too thats why I was one of the ones asking for a theme week after drawing day. Back in the day my friends used to do something like this. Like draw your own version of Ironman. Anyway think I can get my tarot cards read?

Yeah, that probably wouldn't be a problem. Smile I don't normally do readings for people online just because of the high number of requests I used to get, but doing a freebie here and there to stay in practice never hurts. I'll PM you for details. Smile

Yes, I do see the reference, but its such a natural thing for the joker that I didn't spot it till you mentioned it ^^ Nice work ^^

      Thank you!

I had figured it'd go largely unnoticed, since as you mentioned - it's all too natural for him. I just didn't want to chance anyone capslocking a spoiler or something. XD

Fair enough Smile Although its not really spoilerish. Quoting the scene it came from would be. Its not as if people didn't know it was gonna happen sooner or later Wink

INORITE? XD It just wouldn't be Batman vs. Joker if dear Mr. J didn't end up upside down at some point. Laughing
