Futility of Pain

Raising an eyebrow but dropping his gaze to his hands once again, the vampire answered, "I want to try and help you if I can. It's not your fault that that was done to you. You shouldn't have to live with the constant reminder." He took a deep breath, then admitted, "Plus that, it looks painful. I don't like to see people in pain."

There was a long silence before Suran made a small noise in the back of his throat, pinching out the fire on his cigarette and leaning forward in the chair. There was a brief, irritated motion from his gloved hand and his lips thinned, but the hand suddenly rose and gripped the brim of his fedora.

Instead of reflexively tugging the hat down, however, the shadowshifter slowly lifted it off his head altogether, setting it on top of his knees. The hand came back up to his face and slid across his pale brow, lifting the obscuring bangs and focusing his deadened, vacant expression right on Nyx's face.

Thick black lashes fluttered over ivory cheekbones as his red flecked, golden eyes flickered over the vampire's own blue ones and locked their gazes with a spine chilling expression of calmness.

"Pain... No pain... Does it really matter...?"
