Blackwing Shaman - FF7

To the outsider entering Blackwing territory, the two hardest people to catch sight of are the shaman and the chieftain, as the tribe is least eager to risk an attack on either. The shaman is skilled in healing spells and warding off troubles, as well as summoning spirit creatures and appealing to the planet to replenish the strength of the tribe's materia. Shaman often attend hunts and appear on the outer fringes of battle, but the rest of the tribe will not put them in any position that poses a potential danger. As with virtually any position withing the tribe, the acting shaman may be either gender, although children that display innate understandings of both mindsets are schooled in the tribe's magical arts from an early age to be as balanced a vessel for the planet's power as is possible.

The shaman's bodypaint is almost always the most elaborate in the tribe, second only to the chieftain's war paint. Simpler but larger than average markings are repainted every morning after bathing, with the most involved designs applied as a form of meditation before complex ceremonies. The shaman is the only member of the tribe to wear black paints, occasionally touching their face and smudging the soot on the forehead of another that may need a specific blessing.
