Make a Splash

Posted Nov 21, 2005, 1:57:30 AM UTC

This is a request I did for someone I met on another art site. It is supposed to be Meryl and Millie from Trigun. I was looking through images of Millie and I noticed that she looked like a guy. So I decided to make her more feminine. I had such a hard time thinking of what kind of pose to do so I could fit both of them in the picture. (I have scaling problems. >_<) Alas, this one seemed the best fit.
I decided to do the watery background in my watercolor paints and I am glad I did because I think it has a pretty neat look to it. What else? I realize there is rippling on their bodies. That is from my scanner and in all actuality, I thought it added to the underwater effect. :ponders: Well, the person I did this for likes it, so hopefully you guys will too. And if you don't, just pretend you do.  :D  All my love. ^_^

Omg, Kristy, how did I MISS this?? I love their poses and the way you made Millie look so pretty and womanly (reminds me a bit of Naru from Love Hina). And the watercolor effect is a nice touch.
I'm going to go back thru all your art now and see what else I missed... ^_^

Very nice. Smile I love the effect you did with the water ripples. And the coloring and shading is awesome.

Hug Aww thank you hun. That really means alot because this one is actually my least favorite of all of my drawings. >< Well it was actually quite easy to do the water ripples on there. I used watercolor pencils for the background and then I left it wet. And before it dried, I hurried and scanned it. And the scanner picked it up like that. Cool coincidence huh? Okay I am rambling so I'll shut up. What was I saying? Oh yeah... Thanks for the comments hun. Smile

Ah yes, scaling, something I had MUCH trouble with when I first started doing artwork, I was finding that as I drew things, the characters began filling up the page, and I actually began TAPING two sheets ofpaper together and lining them up. No mroe though hehe. I think scaling goes away, as you get more suited to a certain body form for drawing, mainly the anatomy of the body. I think Millie was a little too big as well in Trigun, so I like that you gave her a more em. look. I don't think I've ever seen them in swim suits either, so that's some originality. Also, nice effect with the water and ripples, I've not attempted something like that before myself, so kudos to you Wink.

Ah... thanks Chris. This was done as a request for a member on FAC. He asked for Meryl and Millie and he wanted them in bathing suits swimming underwater. So, I did my best. I used my watercolor paints for that background. I found it to be quite efficient. Wink As far as Millie goes, the first pic I saw of her, I couldn't tell if she was male or female. I was like "Millie is a girl?" So yeah, I wanted to try to give her a feminine appeal. I am glad it worked out for the better. Thanks again Chris. ^_^

Yeah, I wouldn't want to go for a swim if it was that cold. Brrr! I am so happy that you like this one though. It is not one of my better ones, but I am glad that it is getting some reviews anyway. Thank you so much again for your encouragement and praise as always. You make me feel so happy all the time. All my love. ^_^

It looks very playful, their poses are well done, and the colors look beautiful. It's a pleasure to look at. The only thing I see is that maybe one of them is too close to the edge. Gosh that sounded corny huh?
    Anywho I luv it.Corky Smile

She is too far to the edge. But that isn't the only mishap I had on this. Originally I had given Meryl 2 left feet. >_< So I had to fix that. The biggest problem I am having is drawing things too big to fit the page. I have problems centering it too. Ah well. Something for me to work on. Thank you for your praise on this one though. I think the general "feel" of the picture is playful. Which is what I was going for with these poses. They seem to be "dancing" underwater together. All my love. ^_^

Two left feet?! Poor girl, would she be able to walk? LOL. Centering problems? I have the same problem sometimes, so I try to mark the characters' size and things like that. But it doesn't always help. >< I guess it requires more practice. Anyway I am glad you achieved what you wanted with this, they really seem to be dancing. And you're welcome hun.SmileHeart

Yay!!! It looks super. The only thing is the foot....but otherwise awesome as usual. Funny party is, someone emailed me and wanted me to do the same pic, except it being Kagome and Sango.....so if I do it dont think Inuyashababe69 is a big idea stealer!!!! LOL. Loves*
    • Nov 22, 2005, 9:52:48 AM UTC
Oh no hun. You are not a big idea stealer. But rather sharing in a good idea. Yes I don't know how I didn't notice that foot thing. Tongue But I fixered it up now and it looks right now. I think. But anyway, I hope you DO do the one of kagome and Sango. That will be awesome! (heheh... I said "do do"Wink I need some sleep. But anyway, I am glad you like it. It isn't anything extravagant, but it's better than doing nothing right? Smile All my love. Mwah! ^_^

Thanks sweetie. I am going to start a new one tonight. I am making one for my Joni boy. I am not quite sure what I will do for it though. Guess I'll have to see what my pencils want to draw. Laughing Thank you for your praise and encouragemnet. Much love. ^_^

Very cute I like how you did the bubbles.
    • Nov 21, 2005, 12:29:01 PM UTC
Woot! Thanks Susie. Big Smile I have a couple of things I would love to fix, but finding the time to do it is another story. The bubbles and their pose is my favorite parts of this one. Smile Thank you so much again for the wonderful compliment. Much love. ^_^

Tongue Wonderfully done, luv, though I have to say a couple things.

First, Millie looks like a guy because that is part of her character in the series. She's very very strong, and slightly ditzy... And entirely comic relief.

Second, Meryl's put her foot on backwards! Oh noes! She'd better change her birthday shoes. She might fall on her nose!

You've done a great job of proportions, poses - and just everything in general. They look like they're dancing, and it makes me happy!

    Love always!

*giggles* How in the heck did I let that slip? Laughing You see? Therein lies my problem. It seems like I always have something out of place in my drawings. Ah well. At least I fixed it now. I think I have her toesies in the right places. Laughing Thank you for pointing that out to me. I like their pose. They do look like they are dancing underwater which is something like what the guy wanted. Thank you for all of your help love. I am currently sitting with my legs propped up on a chair because there is a little mouse in my house who has been tormenting me for days now. I should let my kitties get it. Evil All my love to you my dear husband. Mwah, mwah, mwah!
      • Nov 21, 2005, 9:58:37 PM UTC
Poor little mousie.... If you let your kitties get it, there will be blood all over the carpet.

I see it's all fixied up now. Looks lovely. Wink *squoze* I miss you sweety, but I'll probably be away for a while. I'm being poked by someone over here to get a commission done (he only gave it to me 5 days ago! geez. Arkillian's been waiting AGES while her payment came through the mail...) Anyhow, fact is - I have to get to work. Don't worry if I disappear for a while.

        Love,
        Mr. Butmer
