I loved the P40 ever since I was about five or so and saw one in the window of a hobby shop....I think, considering my age, I fell in love with it because of the "tiger shark" design on the engine cowling which gave it the "face"!!!
My son and I actually met a real life flying tiger about ten years ago . He came into my mechanic shop with his wife who did all the talking and he sat quietly on a bench . One day my son was playing in the office with a model p40 and the man spoke for the first time ever "what you got there son ?" my son " a p40 war hawk , but this one is from the flying tigers cause it has this emblem on the side " man " i was a flying tiger ! " he invited us to his home and showed us tons of pictures even one of him and Clair Shenault ! My son felt like he met a movie star , me too ! Sadly he passed on a few years later R.I.P. Mr Green thank you for your service .
