Snowflake Dragon

Posted Jan 29, 2018, 10:04:21 PM UTC

The final Art Piece I started at Anime Expo 2017! Though this drawing took much longer to finish, and in fact was not finished until a few months after the convention.

I really wanted to challenge myself with Lighting and Light Sources, and this concept had been percolating in my mind for a while now, I finally decided to try my hand at what I call a "Snowflake Dragon".

meant as a kind of 'Pixie' or 'Fearie' Dragon, this little guy has semi-translucent ice like wings and tail. and is meant to blend in on a magical winters day. (snowy of course.)

I'm absolutely thrilled with how this one came out! Even though it took a lot of work to detail all of that. XD I hope you guys like it too!

Done with Copic Markers and Multiliners on 5x8 Bristol paper.

This is just absolutely adorable! I love the whole shape of the little guy's body. Especially the toes, though. Beautifully done and it really looks icy, almost glasslike. Great job!

      I'm glad you like it!

The lighting came out spectacular, especially for using markers, wow! This little thing has a cute design, I like how the "wings" look like the snow flakes it is based after. The textures add so much to the piece, it adds a little interest to every surface and makes the dragon's smoothness even more visible.

Little guy is an absolute charmer. <3 And I think the lighting experiment turned out well.

...Is his coloration partly camouflage? If one of these little guys slept among icicles, how long would it take to tell the difference?

yep! partly camouflage! XD you'd never spot him when it was snowing I bet. ^_^

Thinking of doing a small series of elemental faerie dragons. Wink
