Puff's Picture Book

My entry for the Smaugust challenge. This is actually a re-working of a sketch I started back in 2017.  The layout's mostly unchanged from the original apart from a few small hills and a couple of Chimaeras flying around in the background so I'm not sure how much this counts as a real excercise in composition.   The picture's based around some characters from the Dragon Warrior Monsters Game Boy Color game (which was pretty much a Pokemon-style remake of the Dragon Quest game series). Puff was a Green Dragon and one of my first monsters. Because I was just starting out and didn't know what the items did I read him a Horror Book, which left him a coward and completely useless at everything except defending. Sorry Puff. :( Thankfully he's now recovered from his traumatic experience and is now enjoying a much nicer book on top of his hill house.

This is so cute! Your style here is really solid. I can see a whole children's book being done in this style. I hope you'll do more like this.

Many thanks BogusRed. Smile I'd like to do some more in this style at some point.

This is so wonderful. I love Dragon Quest Monsters! I love the monsters most of all in that series, so it's like it was a game made for my tastes! I really love the soft colors and the gentle blending. Absolutely wonderful in every way. I'm so glad to know about Puff, and I think it's wonderful you've shared him with us! Smile

This has a cute aquarelle feel to it, is the fellow sitting on top of a cave?

Thanks. Smile When I drew this my initial thought was that it was a hill with a hollow inside... but it looks like a cave so maybe it's a very mossy cave?

The moss probably would be softer than plain rock, haha.
