I Had To...

Posted Jan 29, 2006, 1:17:00 AM UTC
I am so so sad.... Okay, well first the good news. The good news is that this is my very very first digital piece of art. And I WAS SOOOOO Happy with how it came out. But lo and behold, when I re-sized the image, it ruined the brightness of the colors and mottled it. It FRIGGEN MOTTLED IT!!!! All of my hard work and IT FRIGGEN MOTTLED IT!!! Anyways, I still think it looks all right. Not bad for my first digital work anyways. And I used Corel Painter IX to color it. I absolutely LOVE the program.
Now onto the picture... I simply had to do some fanart of my favorite white-haired men in anime. Marik Ishtar from Yu-Gi-Oh and Sesshomaru from Inuyasha. Though I think he probably needs no introduction. :) let me know what you guys think. Well, except for the whole faded/mottled thing going on. That makes me so sad. :cries:. I am going to cry now....

Thank you sweetheart. Smile I absolutely adore Sesshomaru and I absolutely adore the guy behind him too. (His name is Marik and he is very sexy. Yes ) He has a tattoo that covers his entire back which is very very sexy. I love tattoos. Smile Anyway, this was my very first one that I colored in my new paint program. And I think it turned out okay except for the fading of the colors. But, at least I know now not to save it as a Jpeg file next time. That way it won't fade and bubble. Thanks again hun. All my love. Mwah! *hugs*

Thank you so very much Chas. Not too bad for my first digitally-colored pic huh? Smile I really appreciate the kind words hun. Smile I spent like 5 hours coloring this one. And one of those hours was spent just coloring all the gold to make it look shiny. That was fun. *said sarcatically* Thanks again for always supporting my art Chas. Much love. *hugs*

Aww, thank you sweetheart. And can you believe that this was my very first digitally colored piece of art? Really, really. Yes I finally got a paint program that is easy for me to use and I fell in love with it. I am working on one right now of Scar from Full Metal Alchemist. Or as I like to call him, Mr. Anime79. Laughing He is so beautiful. A little dead, but sexy none-the-less. I am so glad that everyone likes this one despite the screw-up from the save. Thanks for lifting my spirits hun. Much love. *hugs*

Wow awesome Kristy! Congrats on geting Painter. That program scares me a little. everytime I start painting in it I just get frustrated and go back to Photoshop lol.

Did you happen to look at any tutorials or use any books to get yourself started with Painter? (I could use a little help) Or did you just jump right in?

Excellent work. I especially like the fur on Sesshy.

Well the first program I was using (Adobe Illustrator CS2) I could never get the hang of. It was so difficult to understand how to use all of the different brushes and stuff. But then I switched to Corel Painter IX and I LOVE IT!!! It is so easy to use and easy to understand. Yes Anyway, I just jumped right into it. I have this way of trying to figure things out for myself. I have quite an analytical mind. And then I just kept experimenting until I came up with this. Smile I used a bunch of different brushes for colring this one. Mostly I used the airbrushes. I have always loved airbrushed art. And it gives pretty nice results. Oh and Corel Painter does give you an option of trying it out for free for 30 days. I fell in love with the program so I ordered it. Thanks again Susie. ^_^

oh yuck Illustrator. There's another program I need to learn haha.

The sploching would've been saving it as a *.jpg file. Try saving it as a *.png file next time- its a little larger, but png files are lossless. Jpg files are great for photos and things that doing have solid edges (the blochness is how jpg compresses large areas of colour or something like that). Also, how do you resize it? That may also be a problem :nods:
    • Jan 29, 2006, 9:18:08 AM UTC
yes, you are absolutely right. I didn't realise the difference between saving into the different files until my friend taigen over at deviant told me that it was from saving it as jpeg instead of PNG. So now I know what NOT to do. Laughing And I left it in it's large form after I scanned it so it would be easier to color. (Even though I do have a "zoom" button in painter). And then I shrank it after I was done coloring. And then I saved it as Jpeg and that's when I noticed the mottling on it. So I thought it was from re-sizing it, but I now know it is from the file I saved it under. Thank you so much for all f your help Soozie. Much love. *hugs*

See why I fought to have PNG format on Paper Demon? (well, actually, I asked and BR gave it to me...) PEOPLES! THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS IF YOU SAVE AS JPG!!!!

        *sighs* Noone believed me... ^^;
        • Jan 29, 2006, 5:19:04 PM UTC
Yes, look what happens people. Let this be a lesson to all of us. I had to become a casualty in the war against Jpeg. Sad If I would have known then what I know now. *sigh* Well, at least I know now. Smile Thanks again sweetie. *hugs*

Very great job on this! Marik is also a favorite of mine Grin Don't watch the Inuyasha show but I watch the movies and I have to say that your Sesshomaru is a spitting image of the one from the show. I too have just discovered corel painter and I love it...though I'm partial to Photoshop Embarrassed I think the colors on here are perfectly fine I can't see what you're talking about when you say it was ruined it looks great to me! Smile
    • Jan 29, 2006, 9:22:59 AM UTC
Aww, thank you sweetie. That means alot to me. I was so upset after I had saved it and the colors faded. And the "mottling" effect I was talking about is that "bubbling" you can see around the characters. I am absolutely addicted to Corel Painter now. I LOVE it. So now I am off to work on one of Scar from Full Metal Alchemist. He is so sexy. Yes Thanks again hun for all of your praise and encouragement. All my love. *hugs*

You're most welcome Smile And mottled or not it still looks very awesome...to tell you the truth I really don't see the mottlednesss (if that's a word Laughing )
  • Jan 28, 2006, 6:05:42 PM UTC
Wow, Kristy! This looks stupendously awesome! Almost like you took a screenshot right from a show. Crazy skills, my darling. You are definitely doing wonderfully! And the background fits perfectly.. All in all - I'm in awe.
    • Jan 29, 2006, 9:27:28 AM UTC
*giggles* well thank you my darlingest. It became a bit mottled when I saved it. So from now on, I am NOT saving my digital art as a Jpeg file. No It messed it up so bad. Not too bad for my first digital though huh? Smile I had so much fun coloring it too. I just needed to find the right program. And this one is so easy to understand and it is such a blast. Yes I mostly used the airbrush feature for this one. And for the background, I just layered the different colors around the frame and then smeared them. And I am pretty dang proud of my first one. Thank you so much for your kindness my lovey. All my love to you. *hugs*
