Rusim Ardaeni

The Pallid Mystic // Religious, Islander // Human Female, 28

Appearance:

Touched by death, this towering woman displays a greyed complexion. The healthy muscular build contrasts her sickly disposition of spotted flesh and hollowed features. Jet-black hair wears long and thin down her backside before fraying into billows like volcanic smoke. Peeking from behind are sunken pale eyes that gleam like silver lightning. Its gaze seems almost distant despite the pinprick pupils watching your every move.

Personality:

While vocally humble, Rusim acts with a fierce level of rationality and determination. Her emotional distance can be felt directly through her insensitivities and intolerance towards ideas that stray from her vision. This urges her to bend the will of others into alignment, acting with diplomacy and stoicism that ensures every interaction is socially profitable.

Background:

Hailing from an island east of Bat Saha, Rusim lived a rather repressed life. Her mother referred to her as a revenant; A shadow of a once stillborn daughter revived by a presumably malevolent spirit. Death’s whispers are that of a familiar tune, instilling fear into those from her village. They believed an omen lay dormant in the child’s soul that may threaten a future thick with malice. Wishing to suppress this fate, year after year, they recruited travelling mystics to frequent her abode.

These mystics brought teachings to encourage her purification and spiritual guidance. Still, its futility became transparent as one also brought a plague. A hand with flesh that stinks of rot plucked out beating hearts. Its reach found even that of the heartiest villagers, snuffing out the warm hearth of every home. Rusim felt at peace in its grasp as she too was caressed by its sick. For only a moment she was allowed this sanctuary before again being pried from the grips of death.

The village was smothered by this omen wrought. Twice was she was spared from her demise and never once were her people offered such rapture. It was clear misfortune could not be sedated so the harbinger faced her exile. Rusim now walks the Braided Shore as a wayward mystic, slave to her teachings in desire for answers. She seeks the entity that has trapped her in the living in hopes of understanding the purpose of this enforced purgatory.
