Alex Dragon - For Arkillian

Posted Feb 7, 2006, 11:04:31 PM UTC
At long last, I think it's done.  There may be some touch-ups here and there, but it's esentially finished.  YAY!

I'm pretty happy with the end result, I think.  What do you guys say?

I really love the scenery the most. It looks unbelievably real! Smile

Thanks so much! The scenery is my favourite, too. Wink I always have my favourite and least-favourite parts to my drawings, which just goes to show I definitely have tons of room for improvement. *sigh*

Laughing Thank you so much for the excessive compliments, Saiyangirl! All of my commissions tend to be like this - this kind of effort/detail. That's what people pay me for, isn't it?

Thanks again, luv. Sweet dreams. Wink

OMG- YES!! XD *does a dance*

PEOPLES! GET MINIMAID TO DO YOUR COMMISSIONS!!! IT'S SO WORTH IT!!!

    *glomps you*

    This has got to be one of my faveswt commissions I've gotten hon- You sooooo didn't charge me enough for it though ^^;
    • Feb 8, 2006, 11:16:15 PM UTC
*faints* So relieved! I'm so very glad you like it, dahling.

Embarrassed I still feel bad that it took me so long - but at least now it's finally ready for sending. I'll stick it in the frame tomorrow and get it all ready for mailing on Friday.

One last question - Do you have proper fixative? I only have unscented hairspray. It works really well, but it's not AS good as the proper stuff. Of course, I'm sending it pre-framed so it won't smudge in the mail or anything.

*runs at you and hugs you* You made me SO happy! Thank you.
      • Feb 9, 2006, 1:47:12 AM UTC
Don't feel bad Smile 4 years later, I'm not started on my brother's- but that was a request, not a commssion.

Ohhhh- you're gonna frame it too? XD Yes, I have fixative- it's like $20 a can, and I do enough pencil drawings to grant it. Besides, I fear hair spray after using my mum's old can when I started off- splotted my work, and it smelled for aaaaages after. I try to go for the real stuff cause of that ^^; Plus you can draw over the fixative I have :nods: It's goooood ^^
        • Feb 9, 2006, 8:23:22 AM UTC
Yes, re-workable is nice stuff. I've never had trouble with the hairspray I buy, though, and it's really and truly unscented. Laughing

It's still a better idea, I think, for me to send it to you unfixed.
The frame comes with it, yes, but it's just a cheap frame. It works, but mostly it's to keep the drawing from being smudged.

Wish I could afford proper fixative... *pout*

          Much love!
          • Feb 9, 2006, 8:45:02 PM UTC
Costs me $20 Kiwi Smile It's worth it too- lasts aaaaages.
            • Feb 9, 2006, 9:48:35 PM UTC
I know - It's more expensive to buy it here. I don't even HAVE 20$ anyhow... I've only just got enough to survive until May if I don't spend any extra. Laughing

But here it tends to cost $30 to $40 Canadian. Sick Too much to spend when the $1.00 hairspray works so well.
              • Feb 10, 2006, 3:49:15 AM UTC
$1 hairspray sounds good too- I get given the stuff for christmas and things anyways- but it does tend to last, so its worth it if you ge thte money for it ^^
  • Feb 8, 2006, 5:04:31 PM UTC
Woot! It looks so prettyful lovey. Yes You have really out done yourself with this one. All of that anguish over it and finally it is done and looks wonderful. Anywhoo, I absolutely love the foliage. I have never seen anyone draw shrubbery and stuff like you do. You always put so much into your drawings. Like that marble. O.O I rub you rots. But I think you already know that. Smile
    • Feb 8, 2006, 6:55:04 PM UTC
Foliage has always been a problem for me, actually. This is the first time I've done it to the point where I'm actually satisfied.

The marble actually wasn't too hard. The leaves were hard... lol. But the marble came pretty naturally for me. Maybe I'm more of a 'stony' kind of person.

I rub you SOOOO much, too! You are my bestest wife ever.

      Hugs and squozes,
      Mr. Butmer

"Foliage has always been a problem for me, actually." Really? That seems quite odd because all of your drawings with that kind of stuff, you make it look so easy. The results are so phenomenal. And you said you're a "stony" person. Heehee. My little "Stony Stonerson." Heheh. I love you too my bestest husband ever in the widest world. MWAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH!!!!
        • Feb 9, 2006, 6:35:33 PM UTC
It might -look- easy, darling, but it certainly isn't. I -always have to pull out a whole lot of photos of trees at different angles so I have an idea of how the lights and darks work. I wasn't too impressed with the way my foliage turned out in 'autumn fay' actually... I thought it looked too stiff. But hey! They say the artist is his/her own worst critic.

And yup! Stony Stonerson - that's me. Laughing I rub you, sweety. Talk to you soon.

O.O...I am in shock! I love this! HOLY COW! The Marble is .....omg this is perfect Robin! This is beautifully done oh my goodness...this is one of my favorites so far of yours. You have made changes from when you first started and I think they are very good choices...his hair is beautiful....also the clothing is shaded wonderfully! I am so stunned and, and I don't know what to say but I love this and you are a great artist...this is going in my favs! *Glomps*
    • Feb 8, 2006, 6:51:12 PM UTC
      Embarrassed *glomps back!*

I'm so glad you like it sweety. You made me blush and everything! I have to fix a little bit on his face, but it's almost there!

Thank you so much, luv. I'll talk to you soon.
      • Feb 9, 2006, 2:12:18 PM UTC
I sure hope I get to talk to you sometime soon...I feel really bad that I have been not talking to anyone on here...I feel like I have being singling people out...but I will try to get myself back in track ...its just school...friends...homework...and my art projects for school...but I hope to talk to you soon! *smiles*
        • Feb 9, 2006, 6:38:23 PM UTC
Don't feel bad, luv. We all get bogged down from time to time. I know I've certainly had to take a while away from things recently. I'm back in the swing now, but it was really tough to keep in contact with everyone while also keeping on top of my duties (art and work)... We all have that happen sometimes.

I'm sure everyone will still be here when you're ready to come back in full force. Big Smile
          • Feb 10, 2006, 1:56:32 PM UTC

    • Feb 8, 2006, 6:38:02 PM UTC
She says I have just one fixup to do, and then it's all done forever. YAY! I'm going to go do that now.

Big Smile I have a couple little things to fix, but nothing huge. Thank you so much for all the compliments, luv (and the favourite!!)
  • Feb 7, 2006, 4:38:29 PM UTC
Wow..just wow..I'm stunned every time I look at one of your penciled commissions lol. I sware my eyes would get stuck like they are if I kept stairing any longer at this. Not to mention the amount of depth going into it O_o. I deffinately think Alex looks PERFECT looking towards the direction of the foliage. The marble structure around him looks just stunning, SO 3D it's not even funny *laugh* One can't exactly pick a favorite part of this, because well, it just ALL melds together, it's so awesome Corky Smile. Me hopes Arkillian likes it as well as I do Corky Smile. *Favorites* Keep it up as always, such DANG good works.

Big Smile I hope she likes it too! Thank you so much for the extensive compliments. Embarrassed You maked me blush. Laughing

I don't think it's quite perfect, but I'm not sure if I can fix the part that I know bothers both Arkillian and I... Alex looks too young. I can't completely re-do his face, because there's too many dark lines, and it would all get smushed together if I tried to erase too much... I also had a heck of a time doing the profile so tiny (his head is about 2 Centimetres wide) Ah well... I don't know if there is such an easy solution.

      Thanks again, Chris!!! Bounce

Hehe you're welcome, if it's one thing I know an artist likes to hear, it's flattery and compliments over their artwork Corky Smile. That was one thing I was thinking of mentioning was how small of detail you had gone int doing his face. Even the nose o.o;; looks like one would have to take a magnifying lens to one eye, and careful etch as you draw the face lol. Ah well, if he does look too young to both you and Arkillian, you could always say it was back in his younger days, when he was day dreaming or something XD. But otherwise, aside from that, I would say it's fine in my book.
