Carter grabbed Bo and shoved him against the wall, knocking the wind out of the much lighter built Abyssal.

“Boy, you don’t know what lovin’ I’ve done.” Carter stared him down, blocking all his exits as he did. “I had me a girl once, just like you. Her name was Kate.”

Bo pressed his hand against the rough wood paneling while he caught his breath. He narrowed his eyes at his boss. “And what happened to her?”

Carter’s hat cast a deep shadow over his face and only his eyes glinted as he said, “Caught her with some other lover.”

Bo swallowed. Carter didn’t take to sharing too well. He already had a feeling how this story ended.

“And?” he asked.

Carter snapped his teeth and braced his hand on his holstered pistol.

“I put three rounds into Kate McCannon.”
