With a drunken, disappearing father and a mother he couldn't save through birth, Ime was handed off to his maternal grandparents Otis and Ruthi. Growing up in Tiocrose Isles far from the mainland, the villagers had to take care of themselves - and care for eachother. As soon as he was able to walk and hold a bucket without falling over, Ime was tending to the vegetable garden outside their home. Once mature enough, Otis took him on fishing trips, and he quickly fell in love with the water and what it held. He became a trustworthy fisherman and 'farmer' as a young teenager, trading most of what he collected to the villagers. In his free time, he took up archery and had small lessons on magic and how to control his own, though he wouldn't use much of either for anything. Ruthi also taught him the ways of the kitchen, and how to cook the dishes he enjoyed.

When Ime found out he had a sibling on the mainland not much younger than himself, he constantly asked Ruthi when they could meet. He treated his brother Dayo as the most precious thing in life, sending material love when they were apart and not letting go when in sight. Though it wasn't often by default, as they grew, their time together only decreased... and eventually his brother stopped visiting entirely. To the confusion of his grandparents, Ime went into a depressed state. They couldn't put it together: the two lived a sea apart, saw eachother a few times a year, and had few similar interests. His love was simply too strong for obstacles to stand, but it didn't appear to be reciprocated - something he couldn't get through on his own. It devastated him for years, but he's now seemingly accepted it. He's since spent his time taking care of his grandparents, and any villagers that need the help.
