Bertram is a former career marine who deserted when the Argosy was unable to properly pay him for a period of three months. With few options for social advancement, he's taken up the mercenary trade. He took his issue equipment with him - leather armor, his trusty cutlass, and a dagger. He also took some rations and some coin from the paymaster, but those are long gone.

Bertram is not particularly book-smart or well educated, but he seems to do his best thinking in taverns - oddly, he is at his most clear-headed and reflective when soused on strong beer. Call it his superpower.

Assets: He is a competent swordsman, has a good sense of tactics, and is a decent businessman. Has a talent for whittling.

Drawbacks: Spends much of his time at the bottom of a bottle. Curses like a sailor (which he is). Is a sucker for a pretty lady of any species.
