Well, I drew this for a cover contest for my school. The contest was today and I falied miserably. I got second place and man was I ever upset. Not like anyone but me knew that but, yeah. (I'm not one to show emotion ) but mostly because I spent over 15 hours on this and the art I lost to wasn't even smoothed over.  Oh well, it was fair game.  Better luck next time.

Hope you guys like it! Some how I seem to amsue people on here at least. That's good for me.

Art shouldn't be based on competition because everyone has their unique way of drawing (or painting, or whatever). This is beautifully done, hun. I was never fond of art contests. To me, everyone's a winner! This is because everyone puts so much effort in their work, and they all deserve credit for that. Guaranteed. Wink

This is great! I like the brightness of it. Big Smile I've never been one for drawing landscapes myself, so I admire it even more! Laughing Did you have a photo or picture or something that you based this on?

Laughing I suppose it's just a kind of childhood thing. Yeah, this one time we would get soaked, reside to dry off, then jump in again! It was awesome... Big Smile

I find that art isn't a competition, and I would never enter an art competition, but I can see how you could see so otherwise. I do recommend that you take these things with a grain of salt, as art can be a very subjective thing. Even if someone states that they believe x, y, and z elements of something is objectively worse or better, I find that one is still comparing things that are made from the realms of the imagination and can be akin to picking favorite colors.

As for the piece, I think it's excellent. I like the very bright style.

Thanks very much, Qcvar! I don't like doing them myself but I had to go in on this one. My friends dragged me into it. XD

I agree. There are people who will love a piece when another would trow it away.

What was the first place like- It must have had some sort of character to it. I'd love to see a photo so I could try and see how it could be better than this somehow. It's a lovely picture Smile My only thoughts is it could use more texture- like lines running down the tree trunk to look like bark, and nobly areas on the rocks so they aren't as perfect. Ask if you can take a photo of the winners photo and e-mail it to me if you could, k hon? I don't like to see someone put down cause they thought second place was not good enough. I reckon this deserves 1st, but maybe I could tell you why it was only second?

It did. I know why it won but I could probably take a picture also. It was cover art for the school yearbook. What my friend did who won was took pieces of the school slogan and made a drawing of different elements of it. I reallt probably shouldn't have gotten upset about it because it really is going to make a WAY better cover then my art ever would have. It actually looks like a cover for a school, not a landscape that should be packed away in a desk. Laughing For nothing other then creativity she deserved it. But, like I said, I'll ask her about it. ^_^

Thanks so much for the help, Arkillian!! I really appreciate it. Smile I'll try to make it have some more texture tonight! Big Smile

Not a problem Smile I just know that I find rejection easier to handle if I know why I wasn't good enough- I hoped to make it easier by doing the same. It is alovely picture though, and from the sounds of things, its did deseurve 2nd- you should be proud of yourself Smile I've never won anything in a comp myself XD Then again, I don't enter them cause I hate competition mostly

Yeah, but it's okay. I'll be better for next time because of it. ^_^ Oh, I really don't like it either. I hate having to be pitted agenst my friends.
