Ulreth - Reference

I was waffling on this for a long time now. Ulreth, and the following character I'm going to submit, are characters from a near, dear, and very precious story of mine. It is my oldest story that I've had around since elementary school when I was roughly 9-10 years old. Of course, the story has changed a lot since then and has been updated as needed. But they are so dear to me, I wanted to add them to Paperdemon.

Name: Ulreth

Age: Ancient (Over 3000+ years)

Species: Demon

Hair color: Deep Brown to Blonde ombre

Eye color: Muted Pastel Green

Height: Roughly 7’ 1”

Gender: Male

Pronouns: He/Him

Personality: Cocky and self-assured, he exudes confidence. He is known to be a stern and fierce war general during his time in the holy war. Now left with little to do other than maintain the fragile peace of his people. He is tactical. In his youth, he was known for his blood lust. He has mellowed in the years, even so far as to settle into a peaceful mansion in the middle of the woods, with the nearest town at least 30 minutes walking. This does bring a fair bit of boredom though, as well as mischief from time to time.

Likes: Reading, he has a large personal library that includes books that are limited runs or even the sole copies of some. Keeping busy, as well as pranking his friends. Although he wouldn't call them friends, he WOULD call them 'war buddies' and 'subordinates'. He also adores Reina, his partner. He does still enjoy sparring, and a little bloodletting here and there.

Dislikes: Having his sleep disturbed, he is a light sleeper and notoriously violent when woken. He also despises the Goddess of the world, Ch'aska, given he opposed her in the holy war, but also largely because he feels she is often hypocritical and cruel. Humans of old, most of which were tastelessly ill-informed about demons and, in his opinion, got involved in a fight that did not need them. His own emotions, they feel complicated and difficult to navigate.

Background:

He was created a long time ago by his lord, and God, Nahundi. Along with a handful of others, including his sister, Rosline. They were tasked in time to bring more of the world to him, expanding over time. So that every part of the world the sun touched, belonged to him. This clashed in time with the Goddess, Ch'aska, among her twilight and the dusk that she cherished. She had control over the world at large at the time and their collision lead to a mass holy war. In the war, Ulreth made a name for himself as THE Demon General, Ulreth. His name carries terrifying weight even centuries later. His is the highest ranked, with four others under him, considered the most respected demons.

Once the war finished, his god, Nahundi, looked to Ulreth and gave him the order to maintain his land before leaving. Nobody had seen Nahundi since, but Ulreth has been acting as the lord of the land in his place. Which was a dream come true many years ago, but peace has taken place since, and life had gotten dull, repetitive, and tiring. He would never say it aloud, but he'd begun to question if their lord would ever return.

In the time Ulreth has ruled, he has made a concentrated effort to dismantle harmful trades, especially targeting black markets and living trades. Especially after the last human spotting had been painfully long ago. Humans stopped existing, but hybrids, creatures adapted to the new world of hiding and demons, developed. These species are called Relictum, or Relict for a singular one. Unfortunately, a number get caught and sold, traded for work, and often sadistic cruelty. Ulreth has slowly been working to dismantle these trades. He met a particular Relict during one of his early expeditions, who has stuck with him ever since. The Relict in question was Reina, whom had been ripped away from her clan as an infant, and raised in this trade. So when given her freedom, she felt at a loss and looked to Ulreth, who'd helped her. He emphasizes she is free to leave and he would happily finance any endeavors she wishes, but she insists she wishes to stay with him.

Reina continues to be more open, honest, and expressive of her wishes. Convincing Ukreth to go out into town with her, teaching her to read more complex languages, and even teaching her about culture and her own people. The more time they spend together, the more Ulreth finds his frustrations of having nothing to do disappear. He also finds himself drawn to the smaller woman increasingly more, eventually confronted with what those emotions are when she confesses to loving him herself. He doesn't react great initially, rejecting the idea anyone could like him like that, least of all her, but relents that it's more that he feels less than adequate for her as he is not inherently a good person like she is.

Despite the confusing start, they do settle into a more content dynamic. At some point, Reina suggests making her a demon so she would be ageless as well, which not only throws Ulreth off but also makes him freak out initially. Not comfortable or okay with the idea in the slightest, he doesn't understand why she'd think such a thing. Although does realize she means the right thing, he fears it may lead to a change in her person as a whole, arguing a bit with her on the subject. ((I am undecided if he refuses in the end, or relents eventually.))
