Ice Queen - step 1

Posted Jun 18, 2006, 4:48:42 PM UTC
I'm really just playing around right now.  Having a lot of fun getting the texture of ice...  But the scanner I'm having to use at the moment is really crappy, so please excuse the poor quality of the file.  :)

Minimaid, I have decided that your work is just about the best on this site, along with members like Zacula among a select few others. You are heading for greatness! You're just about right up there with the best like Easly and Boris when it comes to fantasy art. You would be perfect for fantasy fiction cover art and young adult fiction illustration. I'm faving this one, which is a big thing, because I am very particular which artworks I fav. Excellent job!FavoriteWorship

I'm sorry for my belated reply to this comment... I've been having problems thinking of a good reply to such an amazing compliment. The best I can think of is thank you - from the bottom of my heart.

I would love to be an illustrator... It just doesn't seem to me to be an obvious path. I will continue with my commissions on my free time - receiving comments from people like you make it all worthwhile.

Thank you so much, from the bottom of my heart.

Amazing shading done on this one. Great work.
But I think her thighs seem a little big, or is that just me? Who knows. I still like it and I wanna see where you go on with this one! WOOT.

*grin* Baby, you should see -my- thighs. They seem big because of two things: One is that the dress billows out a little from the sitting cross-legged position, and the other is because she's modeled after myself, and I have monster thighs. Laughing

      Thanks for the comment!

        Don't worry,
Big thighs run in the family over here too. Laughing
Oh yeah, thats awesome you model stuff after you! I do the same. Yes

This is looking amazing. I really love the shading/texture of her dress and the 'icy' look on her face. Wonderful job so far, can't wait to see it finished! Smile

Thanks luv! I'm working on her crown right now. Well, not 'right' now, right now I'm typing to you, and after that I'm doing some graphic design work for my stepmom, but in general, you know. Laughing Wow, I babble.

I'm glad you like it so far. Big Smile *hugs*

Oh lovey... the more I see of your work, the more I want to become better. This is nothing short of exquisite. Oh, did you see how educated I just seemed by saying that? I feel so distinguished. But anyway, this is going to be wonderful when you are done. Especially after the ice is in there. I was just looking at her shoe and wondering if that is made out of ice because it would appear to be that way. She reminds me of the Ice Queen from the Chronicles of Narnia books. I'll be waiting to see this finished love. Sorry it took me so long to get around to this. Love you muchly.

Hug Oh, my darling wife! Yes, her shoe is made of ice, as is all the 'lace' on the dress. You can see it all very much better in the full view. Her throne (I've found the perfect reference picture for it!) is going to be fashioned after a frozen waterfall, too.

I'm glad she reminds you of the Ice Queen from Narnia. That's the feel I was going for. I have to re-do her face, though, as I've decided to make a series of 'elemental queen' self-portraits. jon says she already looks a lot like me (that was unintentional too!). I love you so muchly, and yes, darling, you sound entirely destinguished. I always knew you were meant to be upper-crust! Wink

Well I think she looks simply ravishing my darling. I looked at this in full view and was so amazed at the level of detail you put into this so far. Especially her sparkly shoe. I would not like ice shoes. My feet are always cold enough as it is. Sick And now that you have told me about the waterfall throne, I am so anxious to see it. Rub you so so much darling husband. Hug

I'll be working on her much more in between study bouts. I rub you so very very much.

Warning to you as well - I'm going to be agone for about five days, after tomorrow. I might be able to come online, but I can't make promises. Wish me luck, ducky!

Nice, I like the frosted look of her dress. Can't wait to see the rest.

Thanks Orlando! I'm pretty excited for it myself. I'm thinking of doing a series, I'm having so much fun with this one. Smile

Is this the Ice queen from Narnia?
        • Jun 19, 2006, 8:24:44 AM UTC
She's based off of that idea, but since I didn't actually go to the effort of looking up the passages in the book that describe her, I can't really say she -is- the Narnia Ice Queen... But that was my initial source. Smile

. So whats next in the serries.
            • Jun 19, 2006, 8:30:28 AM UTC
Smile Well, in all honesty, the Ice queen in this picture is really starting to look (unintentionally) like me. So when I get to shading the face, I'm going to push that idea forward more for -this- picture, and then for the next ones, I'll do various self-portraits in an 'elemental queen' series. I've never done that before, and I think it would be hilarious! Especially since I don't see myself as suiting queenliness. Laughing
