Rainclouds

Posted Aug 29, 2006, 4:26:25 AM UTC

The dark one is frightened; she doesn't want to be a raindrop. She doesn't want to fall from the sky.

The light one is vain; she knows people lie in the grass just for the chance to see her float by. It's nice to be a cloud in the sky.

I really don't like this picture.

Oh, but it definitely captures your style and sense of fashion.

It's delicate and seemingly well planned.
    You have very confident lines.

The only thing that bothers me a little bit about this picture is the placing of the characters, it's not very rounded out.

But still elegant and pleasant to look at.

Thank you very much! XD The cloud doesn't seem very much like my regular style, I think. :x I might redo that drawing someday...

Confident lines? Does this mean my lines aren't shaky? (I'm sorry, I don't talk to artists much, and I don't understand a lot of the terms people use. Please don't think I'm dumb!)

It's okay, I'm completely self taught, so it took me awhile to pick up all the artist lingo too...

And yeah, confident lines means that they are clean and precise. It's considered very professional to have confident lines if that's the look you're going for.

I still love this picture though.

Well, thank you very much, then! Yes, that is something I definitely want. X3

And being self-taught is something we have in common. Big Smile How neat!

I like that being self-taught gives me a more independant sense that what I make is truly my own.

            Y'know?

What don't you like about this picture? I think it's great. What did you use to color it. I wanna say watercolors, but I don't think I'm right. Favorite

Thank you so very much for the favorite! I really appreciate it!

The raindrop's hair should be more affected by gravity, both the inking and the coloring were rushed and have a lot of errors, and I hate the cloud's hair and dress. :x Those are the main reasons I don't like it. There are more, though...

As for the coloring, it was just colored pencils. n_n; I wish I knew how to use watercolors!! That would be so cool!

      Thanks again!

Hey, no sweat. It deserves a favorite in my book. :3.

Well, for Raindrop's hair, I just figured she was only starting to fall. Gravity and such take a second to really show effect. That's just me, though.

Yeah, I wish I could use watercolors, too. Laughing One of these days. And man, if I could get that kind of effect from colored pencils...sheesh. You rock, man. :3

          Thank you again!

And for future reference, I'll probably be using that explanation as an excuse for the gravity in this picture. Giggle

As for coloring with colored pencils, if I may be so bold, I'm confident that you could color in the same style! All you have to do is hold the pencil at an angle (so it's not sharp and doesn't cause lines) and start at the darkest part of the shadow. Then color toward the chosen lightsource and get lighter with the pressure as you go!

Did that make sense? I hope so. :x
          • Aug 31, 2006, 6:21:35 PM UTC
You're totally welcome (and that's cool with me. I'm glad I could help. Giggle )

Hrm. I may have to break out the crayolas again. I've been coloring with my five megatank pens lately, and I love them, but the color range is so limited, it doesn't work for me. Slant But I will try your method. Thanks!

You don't like this picture! O.O but it's great!
    • Aug 29, 2006, 10:15:25 PM UTC
Thank you so much! I just don't like it. :x There's so many things wrong with it!
      • Aug 30, 2006, 12:13:58 PM UTC
Maybe so, but it's blue, and I like blue Grin
        • Aug 31, 2006, 8:30:36 AM UTC
Ha-ha, but who doesn't like blue. Big Smile Come on!
          • Aug 31, 2006, 12:17:22 PM UTC
            Random guy: I don't!
Me: *shoots* yeah i think everyone does
