That must be one attentive gator to have caught all 28 other people, lol!

The way you depicted the mist from the portal is nice, feels very ethereal and fitting. One off thing is the lighting though- the character doesn't feel like he's actually in the swamp, because there is none of the atmospheric green affecting his colors. The reds especially would be muted, since it is the polar opposite to the green, and his pale skin would show hues of it as well. You could probably fix that very quickly by applying a layer of green color over him, then lowering the opacity until it hit a good balance to harmonize him into his new setting.

The gator's head has great anatomy, did you use a reference? And I also like his posture, it feels natural for his situation. Fabric folds can be difficult, but they came out well here, especially on his jacket.

I usually apply a color modifying layer as a finishing touch, but I guess I forgot because it was more of a sketch for me than a finished piece, but you're right, he does look quite out of place. I will definitely remember this though for my next drawing. Thank you for pointing it out.

And yes, I use references to almost anything. I rather trust what I see than what I remember. And thank you (yet again cx) I appreciate it c:
