First, Soul Caliber 3 totally ROCKS!!! *ahem* Second, what I usually do with black is instead of shading is I tint which is the exact opposite of shade. Instead of darkening areas try using a lighter grey or white on top of the black where the light source is supposed to be hitting it. This is fairly hard to do so I recomend finding refrences. Hope that helped Grin

Oh yes, Soul Calibur 3 DOES rox! And I did SOMEWHAT do what you suggested mixing a grey with the black, except, I keep fearing when I push harder to make the color smoothed out with the texture, that the detail lines will go away, ARG lol. Perhaps I should find reference, or maybe..test it out on another piece of paper before-hand XD. Thanks for the comment and advice Corky Smile

No problem & don't worry about the lineart when you press hard with prisma pencils you can always go over them again with a black pen besides prisma's always look best when they are put on thick especially with cartoon characters and if you're still worryning about those lines disappering you can always put the emphasis of the grey or white right next to them to show that there is a fold or something.
