The reference I used was a drawing that somebody else did. I thought it would be easier if I started with something that was pretty close to a real person but still had a hint of anime in it. This way I could slowly ween off of doing so much anime and work on other things. I don't know if i'm ever really going to get lips right though, I just think that long lips look weird on a drawing; especially an amateur one like mine.

Thanks for the advise it's really helpful Smile

I don't think you should wean yourself. The easiest way to learn how to draw real people is to draw real people. Let anime go entirely and immerse yourself in realism or you're never going to break bad habits. Learning the fundamentals of how the human body looks and works will be the key to help you develop your own style as you go.

And don't worry about the lips, with enough practice, you'll be fine.
