Let me include an example what I was talking about- here's a snip of two of my pictures, the first from 2015 and the second from 2018 (separate comment, I can't seem to attach more than one to a single comment), both including black in their design. Both have full scale detailing going on, however, even though the older on is closer in perspective, you can *barely* tell because of how dark it is- and almost all shading is lost. The newer one, however, is very clear, the scale and anatomy detail is clear, and the the dark color is still distinctively "black" despite it being lighter in value. Hopefully I'm being clear haha.
