    Calling commands

"Hama." A voice said gently. A voice she knew well. Newt was a Harpia that had joined their meadow not too long ago. She opened her eyes to darkness but faced him as she slowly stood up.

"Yes, Newt?" She yawned sleepily. She shook herself to shake off her sleepiness. From the sound of the birds, it was mid-morning. Too early for her normally but she had a feeling Newt had something in store for her if he was waking her this early.

"It's time to practice again my dear. This time it's following my voice and touch. After all, we both know this will be useful for you in the future." He said with the sound of a smile on his beak. He towered over her she could tell by the cold shadow he cast over her. Not that she minded. He protected her and Daintilla from outsiders.

Hama nodded and stretched her stiff stubby wings to get the stiffness out. She looked at him. "Is Dainty still sleeping?" She asked

"She is. However, She will wake soon to listen. She wouldn't miss training for the world." He said nuzzling her gently. The horned Harpia took care to be gentle. He was like a big brother to them.

Hama gave a smile. "Alright, let's get to it then." She said and followed the sound of his steps. He walked for her until they got to the place they needed to train. She could smell the peaty scent of mossy trees and feel the light springy forest grass under her talons. She took a deep breath of the air tasting both the foresty scents and Newt close by. She looked toward his scent. "A forest? Your asking for me to hit a tree. " She teased him playfully.

"If I didn't think you could do it Hama I wouldn't have brought you here you old Anaruq!" He laughed teasing back lightly with a smile in his tone since she wouldn't see it on his beak. He gently nuzzled her. "Alright remember follow my voice. We'll start easy then get more difficult ok?" He said.

"I would have it no other way." She said. She nestled down and waited for a command from the Harpia across from her. Or so it smelled. He hadn't moved yet but the peaty moss was starting to override many scents now. She understood why here now. He wanted to do this by sound alone. No scent so she couldn't 'cheat' that way.

Newt moved silently on the peaty ground away from Hama and settled on a low root. One she wouldn't trip over. "Over here." He said gently.

Hama slowly stood up and carefully picked her way to him testing every step right now as she learned the terrain. She was nervous since her sense of smell didn't help identify where he was. She stepped over a root that she had felt with her talon and stopped where she had heard Newt. She gently pushed her head forward and felt his feathered chest relaxing.

"Not bad for your first try scentless." He smiled. "But now we get a little harder. Higher off the ground you could say." He said.

She nodded. "It's strange not to smell you but this clearing is fairly flat." She nodded.

Newt chuckled and nosed her before flying off up high then gliding to a higher perch. "Over here Hama." He said.

Hama followed his voice again. When he told her to jump she did without hesitation. She trusted Newt even if he was new to her and Dainty. Their training went on until Night fell and the two went back to their meadow. Hama tucked under Dainty's wings as she closed her eyes to sleep once more.
