Akatsuki - Kakuzu study

Posted Feb 4, 2008, 9:48:23 PM UTC

Kakuzu is a bad guy from 'Naruto' who takes the hearts of stronger shinobi to add to his own strength and lifespan. The hearts are represented on his body (on his back) by masks, sewn on with thread (the black stuff is the thread).

He is so cool. He belongs to the Akatsuki organization.

This is basically a study for a larger painting I'm planning on doing. It's the first study, and I plan on making a few more (so I can get the hang of the chinese brush and the larger ink nibs. Not used to working with real ink).

Pen and ink, with chinese brush. It was pretty fun.
This is about 5 x 7"

(Obviously referenced this off the masks in the manga)

the ink is fairly simple to get used to, but I feel the brush is hardest for me. I tend to not want to follow the rules for making the marks and holding the brush. Mine end up just being regular watercolor paintings because of this. hang in there though, if you're not as stubborn and lazy as I am you'll get it in no time.
