Roger Expression studies

This is for the PaperDemon expressions challenge.

Roger is one of the two main characters for my animated series, Dragon Mall Quest. I recently decided to refine his character design after completing animation for the first three episodes. I find that I haven't been doing a good job of making the characters very expressive and have gotten lazy about animating them. So I figured if I follow the traditional process of designing these expressions in bulk, it will be easier to drop them in later as I need them during the animation process.

I will not be going back and revising episodes 1-3. Instead this revised character design will just be used in episodes 4 - 8.

I'm not sure what you mean by flat? You're comparing a lineart to a coloured picture, multiple expressions to one expression. What do you mean by the old version being flat, sorry?
