There’s a rattling and a scuttling
Of insects and dry bones
In the face of a careless wind.
Blue skies are shadowed at the sound;
Until the sun rebounds,
And the shells and the cowls
And the gray and rust furies
Are merely leaves again.
…How does it feel, to wander like these?
The grass is still green, but we’re severed from our trees.
Can dead leaves be brought back to life on high?
Who warms hearts which are cold beneath a blue sky?
