Excerpt from Within Abandon (c) Me, Cary A. Morton

"Who are you?" I demanded from where I lay, still on my back, with my gun aimed at his chest.
"Broderick. Broderick Orlen. Brody if you prefer." He answered calmly. He raised his hands to chest level as he spoke, turning his palms towards me to show he held no weapon. I swept my gaze to his belt for a moment, and noted he had only a hunting knife tucked into his waistband. It was unlikely he could get to me before I got a round off, but in hand to hand combat, he had the advantage.
"Broderick." I stated firmly. I wasn't interested in nicknames. "What are you doing in my sector?"
"Your-" He paused for a moment, looking me over. "Wait - you are telling me that you are Katie? Katie Crowe?" He seemed astonished, and mildly amused. I furrowed my brow.
"Katie Crowe?" I asked perplexed. "That's what the locals call you, if you are the woman living holed up in the military base. " He mused. I grit my teeth.
"It is not Katie, its K.T." I clarified, hissing out the words under my breath.
"It is a pleasure to meet you Katie." He bowed slightly at the statement.
"You did not answer my question. What are you doing in my sector?" I demanded.
"I was not aware you owned part of the city. Last I checked, it was still a free country."
"Well, that is where you are wrong. Ask your cockroach buddies what happens to people who stray into my sector. I am sure they have a full range of stories to tell."
"Yes, they do." He stated, the statement held a solemn note. "Did you really use children as bait?" He asked with a curious tone to his voice. I stared at him for a moment.
"It was the most efficient way to pull the cockroaches out of hiding. Humans will leave an adult to be scavenged by the dogs, but they will not leave a child." I stated clearly. Let him think I was a monster, he was better off that way, and it was true. I had long ago ceased to be Human by anyone's standards.

Great artwork. I like the composition and how she fits into the background...
Her anatomy is a bit deformed (big head, waist too thin, small pelvis), but I guess that's your style Wink

Aside, I really like the "backstory" Smile

Thank you for taking the time to comment ^^ Yah about four days after I finished this piece I realized her proportions were off -_- Unfortunately, I'm too lazy to go back and fix them now (that would be a lot of editing) so I shall have to live with my mistakes XD

The mistakes are not THAT bad... really, they rather look like something intentional. Smile

Well, we all have to live with our mistakes Big Smile.
