Experimented with 16-bit mode in Krita because I was told the blending works better. It's nicer, if a bit harder on the system, but it doesn't have those weird black artifacts anymore.

I have never heard of Krita. How are you liking it so far?
Krita is a free software digital painting app. It's worth a try, at least in part because it doesn't cost money to try. And it keeps getting better. There are people developing it. I'm working on it myself too.
By the way, I'm looking for feedback on improving PaperDemon (and the Red Curtain). I know you've been a regular here and I'd love it if you could take a moment to post some feedback so I can make this place better
