BIG LORE and Bit of a TW in the writing piece - Mild Daddy Issues, General upsetting themes & Death
Lumei can always been seen carrying around an old book bag containing a very thicccc and tattered spellbook (Think the entire LOTR book series x1.5, THAT thicc). The book belonged to her late father, Koahn, and is one of the only pieces of him she has left. Most of her father's belongings were distributed amongst the clan's council members after a new order arose - but who needed a shabby old book full of amateur spells? As cheesy as it may sound, Lumei did.
Mere weeks before the incident, Lumi's relationship with her father became heavily strained. They were growing distant as Koahn spent most of his time training with his son or Lumei's younger cousin. The shewolf was never one for melee battle, instead fascinated by the endless possibilities brought about by magic, and Koahn was at one point... but something must've changed. Deep down she knew that her father still loved her dearly, but each passing day it was certainly becoming harder to believe - jealousy burned furiously in her chest. What did they have that she didn't?
It never mattered what she did, because it seemed as if was never enough to get her father to pay her mind. Her emotions would become turbulent and all that she had repressed would be unleashed in episodes of frustrated and intense outbursts, which was too much for anyone, let alone her father, to deal with.
She knew he loved her, but when he turned away when she needed him most in those emotional episodes, it really enforced her belief that she was just a problem child her family didn't want to deal with. All she wanted- no, needed- was reassurance, but it's so difficult to express your needs, insecurities, and anxieties all at once to someone, especially if they can never give you five minutes of undivided attention. Those were the last memories Lumei has of her dad... as you can probably imagine she's plagued with guilt, as well as the quiet despair of never being able to ammend their broken relationship.
But the old tome... while it's filled with old spells and potion recipes slipped loosely between certain pages, it also contains a myriad of entries and logs written by a very young Koahn. This may not sound like much but when reading these journal entries and scattered notes, Lumei gets to see the side of her dad she missed oh so dearly. He never grew out of his sense of humour or his quirky (at times annoying) mannerisms. Reading these entries... it felt like she was reading letters from him, and she could pretend that he was still here.
Lumei uses the tome as a destressor, and will read certain logs over and over again and consult the entries for advice. And when they've both had a rough day, Lumei and Olin will curl up on the couch together and read through the tome together until they drift into sleep.
**The Spell "Arctic Salmon Slap" was invented by Koahn at the age of like... I wanna say 7? Koahn used to use it to entertain baby Lumi, so it's undoubtedly her favourite spell- especially to prank people >:) Inspired by Star's Magic Wand (SVTFOE) (sorry for the edginess idk gotta bust out these drawings because school's-A-COMIN)

"Nope, my weapon of choice is ARCTIC SALMON-"
(Seriously, being hit by one of those fish would probably pack a punch)
AaaahhhHHH I've missed seeing you and your lovely characters around, Neo! Love the tome design and Lumi's gleeful yell-- and the lore! A bit of angst and edgy makes the sweet moments sweeter <3

I just finished my first week and it wasn't too bad, surprisingly - it's only been four days so I can't be totally sure, but I have high hopes!! And ik, I spent like 50 mins just mapping out the due dates for my assignments and exames on my calendar x3
I wish you the best of luck as well!!
My class load isn't terrible (well, physical chemistry is just a cloud of confusion but also cool stuff like... electrons going through forbidden walls?? Or something XD)
Glad to hear your first week went off to a decent start! I totally relate with the "let me spend time planning out my time" haha
