Phantom was riding an airship ferry during one of Avangard's famous superstorms, when, during some turbulence, he accidently fumbles his magic tome. Frantic and desperate, the man accidentally defenestrates himself in an attempt to catch it, before its lost forever. Creed, who was also riding the ferry at the time, sees the accident, and catches him, just in the nick of time.
