The reasoning for the subtitles sometimes calling him "Arucard" is because "l"s are actually generally pronouced like "r"s in their society, so sometimes people translate this very very literally.
This also carries over to Inuyasha. They call her "Kilala" when the subtitles clearly say "Kirara"
