Sorry- when I mean solid, I mean definite shadows- you know? One that is very noticable? Like black or dark grey? You'd unsaturate it in programs like photoshop. What do you scan in?
Gimp is a good start It should have a saturation tampering setting. Otherwise,if it has colourise- colourise to white or whatever should also work. It's a smaller version of programs like photoshop. I see you got rid of the writing though
