This was one back in 1994 as one of my first projects in college (going for my Associate of Sciences in Commercial Art at Florida Metropolitan University), using graphite on card stock board.
We had to take a black and white photograph and render it exactly in pencil. I couldn't find any anime or anything else that appealed to me, until I found a sepia print of the Duke, John Wayne... it was perfect.
If I recall, I got an A for the project grade.
