Frog: Gouache Painting

Posted Feb 1, 2009, 12:48:40 AM UTC

After seeing Taisia's gouache painting being submitted, I wanted to upload mine as well.

This was done for my illustration class where we had to take a photograph and render it in yellow, magenta, cyan, white and black gouache.

You don't know pain until you've worked with Gouache T_____T;;

    Wow! I love how it came out, it's *very* nice. I can't say I've ever used gouache before, though, so I hope you realise it really came out well!

    Oh man- I dig the colours on this Big Smile That frog looks very cool Smile This paint gouache you mean? That stuff is hard core T.T I only ever use it in illustration. IT's way too thick for me to paint in T.T

      Thanks a lot. Yeah, the key is to build with thin washes with strong pigment. It's tough, but the results are amazing.

    Wow, that's pretty awesome! There's so much detail, too. How big is it?

      Thanks. It's about like, 3x8 inches. Something akin to that.

    This turned out quite beautifully! That water rendering on his arm is gorgeous; it looks so positively realistic! Was this your first time using gouache? If it is, I tip my hat to you!

      Yes, this was my first time working with it. I'm glad you like the results. My teacher was surprised. Probably because I waited until the last minute to finish it >.>;
