Practising with my coloured pencils on a bishie for once. blond hair. Lighter colouring. Maybe I can learn subtlety in my colouring T.T

Anyway- Cloud Strife from Final fantasy 7

Media- Faber Castel Polychromos on Stella card.

This will be the last picture I post here based purely off photographs due to the new site policy. I am only posting this final as it seemed pointless leaving this as a work in progress forever.

So, this is the one I like the best out of the three you showed me. Not only is this one finished, it's finished nicely with tiny details drawn in well. I very much like the detail on the metal-works, both part of the sword and the little lion badge on his shoulder pad. If I should sum up anything about your work in general, it would be an encouragement. Work your pencils to the max, just try it for once. As with the other drawings, this one also has that gentle feel to it. An advantage to using the pencils lightly and detailed is the realistic feel of the drawing, I'm assuming this is what you're going for. Alternately, you can go for the brighter, more intense and slightly less realistic touch if you layer and blend your colours more dramatically.

As for this drawing, overall it looks well-done. Some spots, like the hand, see too darkly shaded. Other parts, like the face, might require more shading definition. If anything, I'm not too fond of the screws, but I fully realize how hard it might be too draw that. I have one last tip; when going realistic, check if they outline of the skull is correct, meaning, check if the hair would cover the entire skull.

I hope this is at least somewhat helpful Wink Your drawings intrigued me and I felt inclined to offer my thoughts.

      Heh- that's not surprising since it's the one out of the three that I did from referance. I did this one to break in my coloured pencils and see what they colour do. I wasn't use to having so many colours, and I didn't know how they felt to draw with. When I did this, I had 60 colours- the ones in the standard set. Now I've added a good 20 or so more colours to fill in the holes in my collection. Yeah- the finishing thing. It's that deal of me having a lack of free time T.T People don't comment on my pencil art either so it's difficult to persevere with a picture that gets little love ^^; Lol- I need to get out of that mindset ^^;

Dramatic colouring is what I've done up till now so I wanted to force some more subtle pictures out for a while so I can learn them. See- I learn colour very recently. Till then, my art was mostly about the line art or grey scale so that's why my blacks are too punchy here (Also the scanner threw about the colours some). you have some good points there though. I'm trying to cut back on my solid or near solid blacks in favour of shading with complimentary colours so it's vibrant and not flat.

The shapes of the ojects in this were actually a low priority for me ^^; I know this sounds bad, btu my primary focus on this was to kind of feel the colour as I drew, so it was more about the colours I used, and how they were applied than the end result ^^; His hair does look a little funny though, yeah XD That was my lack of attention to it . I should keep a slightly better eye on that with pictures that turn out nicer than others >.<

Your words have been helpful- thank you Smile I'm glad that my art has left an impression on you Yes I could ask nothing more than that of my submissions <3

Thank you Smile This was a fun picture to do Smile I like how I was forced to use so many colours in this. It's a shame you can't see the original. IT's a lot nicer than the scan.

Lol then the scan must be brilliant!!! Yes
        • Feb 22, 2011, 12:36:40 AM UTC
The original you mean? Yeah- the scanner picks up on tiny defects that don't exist, or make existing ones worse cause it picks up on the pressure of the pencil on the paper giving it a shadow. That, and the light of the scanner is difficult to counter. There's no way of helping that. All traditional art just looks better IRL

Oh wow good job! This really stood out to me, then I realised it was you who did it. Well done!

Thank you Smile Colouring isn't too difficult with a reference, but I was really surprised at how talented this CGI artist REALLY was that originally did this picture, cause there's so much micro expression, and smaller details that are hard to see with a casual glance O.O Cloud has such an INTENSE expression. IT ws daunting to draw D:

Oh wow. That looks amazing. Makes me want to play with my colored pencils! Did you start on a white or colored background??
    • Sep 29, 2010, 3:26:38 AM UTC
Oh- I couldn't have done this on coloured card XD No, it's on white card- the brand is Stella. I've gotten this book http://www.amazon.com/No-Experience-Required-Colored-Watercolor/dp/1581806264/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1285730598&sr=1-1 and it's been a big hand relearning coloured pencil *correctly* I stopped for ages cause noone taught me how to use them, and I had complaints that my art looked crap up close. Now I know how to use them, it's different I hope Smile Thank you for your comment

Thanks Smile I'm trying to get into colour- specifically coloured pencil. It can be... difficult at times :/ I'm getting there though.

Holy crap. Hats off to you....I have been slacking on my practice of colored pencils lately...
    • Sep 23, 2010, 10:17:22 AM UTC
I've only just gotten back into it myself this year. I got put off coloured pencils for ages cause I wasn't taught how to use them so they looked crap up close. I was shown a how to book at the beginning of the year and have been practising since Smile

Makes me like Cloud more than I originally did.
