It brought it along its escapade as a means of self defense yet the connection seems to run deeper. Within, an unknown magic responds to its young master's sense of duty allowing for portals be made in order to do right whenever needed. When the connections are met, the metal of the sword and hinges will glow purple and so will the remainder of the royal markings at the leather guard. Of course, the ratling had not yet come to know of this, its sense of duty had long become intentionally buried deep within its mind. Perhaps one day sword and master will make use of this ability... The sword will slowly regenerate after each portal adventure and badges will be represented as gems imprinted on the hilt.
