It is so cool how the pieces coming from the maw are smaller, its such a creative way to show the power of their roar! I find it interesting to look at the dragons in the border- in a lot of ways, the pairs seem affectionate of one another, despite the sharp rendering they are shown in. At the bottom, instead of showing hostility, as one would expect given the mood of the center piece, they press their foreheads together. In the top, despite facing away from one another, their tails come together to form a heart. Combining the border with the center gives off a different feel then the one you get first looking, it has the feel of heartbreak, portrayed in an unromantic manner. Sorry for diving into symbolism mode there, I know I can ramble, haha! But its a beautiful piece.
