The lack of good shading really hurts this piece. The face looks rather flat with no cheek bones or a strong jaw line because of the lack of shadows that show musculature. The hair too is flat, when in reality there are many different shades to hair. Some darker and lighter shades would really help. The eye is well done, but without proper shading to make it look recessed it looks odd. The darker background does not help as the hair tends to bleed into it. Keep trying and good luck.
