01. Species of Equestria

Species of Equestria

Equestria and the lands beyond its borders are filled with many species. While the Age of Princesses saw a surge in diversity across the realm, the rise of Wild Magic nearly erased this progress. Below are the species that are commonly found in Equestria currently. As the wilds are reclaimed, Equestrians may reunite with other species once again.

Species Rarity determines when certain species are accessable to players and also represents how likely you are to find such species among the population in Equestria. Rarity tiers are unlocked when players level up.

Common Rarity - Available to All

Earth Ponies: These are horse-like equines, including zebra and donkey lineages. While orgininally zebras and donkeys were thought of as separate species, they became widely intermixed with other Earth Ponies over the past hundreds of years, so much so that their traits can be found commonly among Earth Ponies to this day.

Pegasus Ponies: These are horse-like equines with feathered wings capable of flight. Traditionally helped shape the weather in Equestria.

Unicorn Ponies: These are horse-like equines with magic horns on their foreheads. They are the primary users of Traditional Magic.

Bat Ponies: These are horse-like equines with bat wings. Some of these ponies have other bat-like features as well. The diet if bat ponies is highly variable. Some rely heavily on fruit, some are omnivorous, some favor insects, and others even drink blood. Most bat ponies in equestria are either desended from Luna's personal guard or come from families in Sumit's Hollow.

Changeling: This species has the appearance of a cross between an equine and an insect. The typical pureblood changeling has a single pair of oval-shaped insect wings that can fold under a protective shell, a tail that resembles a wing or no tail at all, and frequently a beetle-like horn on their forehead. Changelings have been interbreeding with other species for a long time, however, making pony-like hair and tails far more common. When Wild Magic flared for the first time, all changelings were called back to the hive. Those that refused the call hid themselves in equestrian society using their shapeshifting abilities. Old stories tell of a time when Changelings were dark, fierce, and riddled with holes with a hunger like a deadly disease, but most believe these to be simple folklore.

Bovines: These include cows, bison, and yaks! They have a standard straight or slightly curved set of horns, short tails with tufted ends, plus cloven hooves. Dewlaps and udders (females only) are optional. These live in a variety of areas including Yakyakistan and Appleloosa.

Deer: Deer species range in size a great deal, but are known for their cloven hooves, short tails, and (optional) antlers that they grow and shed seasonally. They are an elusive species, frequently residing in places that are hard for other creatures to reach, such as the center of the Everfree Forest and the tundra north of the Crystal Empire.
