Chapter 81: Quad Attack Bodhi Caspian Zeke Grin

With the siren’s song neutralized by their β€œstunning” performance, Bodhi, the sea otter, retrieved his windsurfing board and dropped Ianira off on land. Channeling sky magic through the sail, Bodhi angled himself toward the now momentarily stunned Laguna. The mermaid was crying as the lifeguard carefully approached.

β€œAll I wanted was to learn how to use my magic and make potions like my brother, Ronin,” the distraught Laguna sobbed. β€œIts not my fault I can’t stop my powers from hypnotizing people.”

β€œDry those eyes, bro,” Bodhi called from his board. β€œI’m going to find you the best magic and potion bros around to help you control those powers.”

With that, the blue-striped sea otter lifeguard set off to find help. Personally, the only thing Bodhi knew how to mix was a drink, and his limited magic didn’t make him a good trainer. There was bound to be someone around who would be better suited to help the redheaded mermaid. After a few moments of searching, Bodhi found a black and brown-skinned Athos with turquoise hair sitting alone on a raft.

β€œAn otter with blues stripes surfing instead of swimming? How curious,” the tall being almost purred.

β€œHi, bro, my name is Bodhi,” the lifeguard introduced himself. β€œThat mermaid needs some help with her magic and potion-making. Are you any good with any of that? I’m sure there’s some myth or warning about crying mermaids that don’t end so gnarly.”

β€œNice to meet you, I’m Caspian,” the Athos waved from his raft. β€œCan’t say I’m much help with either of those. Although I can make makeup waterproof.”

β€œWell the first step to feeling good is looking good,” the otter mused momentarily. β€œIf you give merbro a makeover, it might help her get control.”

β€œSounds like a plan but I’m a little stranded on this raft here,” Caspian pointed out.

β€œHold tight then Casp-bro,” Bodhi smiled before sending a gust of wind over the raft. The faint sound of Caspian swearing could be heard on the wind.

Aiming his sail toward a distant object, the sea otter channeled sky magic and sent his windsurf board speeding across the water. Usually, a day on the waters like this with the sea spray on his face would be a nice bit of relaxation, but he was on a mission. Bodhi could finally make out the object as he got closer a tall woman in a rowboat with a box of potions.

β€œExcuse me, but do you have a paddle? I have a delivery to make,” the dark-haired woman asked as the lifeguard approached.

β€œSorry, bro. There’s no paddle onboard, but are you a potion maker?” the blue-striped sea otter asked. My name is Bodhi, and I think if we can teach that merbro to control her powers and brew potions like her brother, then she’ll go away.”

β€œMermaid hair and scale are powerful regents,” the tall lady in the boat mused as she put her hair up in a bun. Bodhi caught the side of the square scar on her neck and made a slight face for a moment. β€œCall me Grin, and I shall help in exchange for magical regents.”

β€œI’m sure we can work something out, Grin, bro. You might want to hold tight,”  Bodhi nods as he uses his windsurf board to angle the rowboat toward the mermaid. A slap on the back of the vessel sends sky magic pulsing through it and rocketing it toward Laguna.

With an alchemist recruited, Bodhi set sail again on his board to find more help. He still needed someone who could help with magic training. The lifeguard was reasonably sure if he had paid attention during his magic training or bothered to try to expand his repertoire instead of surfing. He’d be able to teach Laguna. Bodhi lamented on this till he spotted a brown-haired man with a black horn floating on his back in the water.

β€œIf you are looking for people in need of saving, you can move on; I am fine,” the stranded person sighed stoically. Under the water, his unicorn-like black and brown tail worked as a rudder, aiming his drift. β€œThe boat I fell off of should be back shortly.”

β€œI don’t see any ships, bro,” Bodhi remarked, lying down on his windsurf board to avoid looming over the man. β€œYou any good at training people with magic, bro?”

β€œMy name is Zeke not bro,” the man introduced himself, a little annoyed. β€œI only just learned to use my powers again so I may not be the teacher.”

β€œThat just means the knowledge is fresh Ze-bro. My name is Bodhi and if you help me teach Laguna how to control her powers then I’ll help you find your boat,” the sea otter offered while holding out a hand to pull Zeke aboard.

β€œIt’s Zeke and fine,” the horned man growled. He took the outstretched and climbed onto the windsurf board.

It only took moments for Bodhi to return to the mermaid, using his sky magic to surf across the water at high speeds. Caspian had taken no time to give Laguna a makeover and a tutorial on making waterproof makeup. Grin was mildly frustrated with her new student being a bit of a slow study but had negotiated for the regents she needed. With Bodhi providing ambient ukulele music, Zeke did his best to help train Laguna to control her magical abilities. Eventually, working together, the four of them got her to the level of not being a danger to others. Bodhi counted that as a win before setting out to find Ze-bro’s ship.
