Chapter 3: Practice

Finding peace within myself, I'm sleeping. You know

When I first awoke in The Pumpkin kingdom I remember seeing a lot of orange and black tree sized mushrooms. I wasn't sure of what to do but a voice, a woman's voice, spoke out directions and tips.

“To access the menu screen say Menu. To access the help screen say help. All actions are voice activated. Please practice by saying menu.” I did what the voice asked and said menu. The mushroom background shaded into black and white as a tiny blue screen titled “menu” appeared in front of me.

“Now choose options,” The voice continued.

“Options,” I said.

“Choose fighting type,”

“Fighting type,”

“Your fighting type is currently set to manual. Manual fighting is choosing your' fighting attacks from the menu screen. For this practice stage please choose automatic fighting. Automatic fighting is moving your character and summoning your attacks by yelling them out.”

“Automatic fighting,” I said.

“Automatic fighting has been set. Please move ahead to the next exercise, battling.” The voice instructed. I moved further and I could finally see my body. I was a beautiful fox-like creature. I was a humanoid so of course I could stand on two legs but I had a foxtail and ears. My hair was orange like a fox's too. As I stood in the mushroom forest a tree monster sprang out from some bushes in front of me. “This is a Tree Goblin. They are part wood and part ghost. Their special ability is the `possessed bark' technique,” the computer informed me.

I wasn't sure what to do exactly so I called out “help” for some more guidance. The game faded into the menu screen and the voice spoke. “You have chosen the help tool bar, what would you like answered?”

“Attack list!” I yelled.

“Attack list… Confirming information… You techniques are as such: First degree burn Foxfire and Bite.”

`Foxfire?' I wondered. I took off towards the wood goblin shouting, “Foxfire!” and a strange green flame burst from my entire body. I kicked and punched the monster as the green blaze burned him. With a final punch the monster's tree shell collapsed on itself and a raging spirit flew out and vanished.

“One wood goblin defeated, gain 4 experience points, gain 2 magic points, gain 5 attack points. Your main objective of this world is to get to the end of the forest,” the voice announced.

“Alright then, I'm on my way!” I said and took off down the spooky path that led to the end of the forest.
